SUMMARY STATEMENT:
People who have vision, hearing, or speech disabilities (“communication disabilities”) use different ways to communicate. For example, people who are blind may give and receive information
audibly rather than in writing and people who are deaf may give and receive information through writing or sign language rather than through speech.
The ADA requires that Title II entities (State and local governments) communicate effectively with people who have communication disabilities. The goal is to ensure that communication
with people with these disabilities is equally effective as communication with people without disabilities.
Currently our website is ADA compliant and staff is working on setting up an accessibility page that will describe all the accessible features of the website. Attached is the Resolution,
Policy statement for Effective Communication, a Communications Guide and US Department of Justice ADA Requirement for Effective Communication
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Approve Resolution 20-27 adopting an effective communication policy to reasonably ensure that persons with disabilities are provided with access to city services and information equally
effective with that provided to persons without disabilities and authorize the Mayor to sign all necessary documents.
