The first item of business was the discussion of change orders for l ; the New Police Station. A change order of $3600 was approved for completion of retaining wall . It was moved that a change order fort, gates be held over for further study. Ceramic tile in the bathroomli was discussed and a motion made to try to trade an adjustment for i�color variences for tile full height on the walls. i+ The balance of the meeting was directed toward business of the Fire !: Department . The contract between the Firemen' s Union Local 671 , I . A. F. F. and the City of Jeffersonwas discussed at length with innumerous changes being made. A copy of the revised contract is attached. Mrs. Noblin stated she had it conflict of interest and was excused from the hearing. ! Mr. Michael Riley, attorney for those desiring the rezoning , stated that the opening of Route B and the extension of Ellis Boulevard had substantially changed the character of the area. He named the ' non-residential properties in the immediate vicinity and stated Planningi the properties of those petitioning for rezoning were more suited & Zoningl for commercial uses than for residential use. When questioned, j Commission Mr. Riley said there were no specific plans for removing the ! Minutes dwellings and replacing them with a commercial building. Mr. Evans 4i asked if the property owners realized their residences would { become non-conforming use if the properties were rezoned to C-1. i Mr. Riley said he was not certain of the answer to the question. Mrs. Ruth Hyder, 800 Peachtree Lane , spoke in opposition to the request. She cited traffic and parking conditions as reasons for ► opposing the request . M. , asking that City oxercise its contract rights. ayor Ilartsfield made a few comitienits, stating that lie had spent -several dozen hours over the last eighteen months, both as ftnan and as Mayor, on issues relating to E. S.M. , but to his knowledgel none of the issues have been resolved. Ile stated the Council. would either have to approve or disapprove the question - if they dis- approve they will have to be reasonable, have some reasonable time allowance for another site to be found. The Mayor stated he was noti, in favor of getting; the City into the garbage collection or disposal business. However, if it came to this, we could discuss purchasing a site and leasing that site to operators. It probably would pay a (return on the investment. Councilman Crader then made the motion that we not accept the land- fill site and give E. S. M. a reasonable length of time to relocate. 'Councilman Robinson seconded the motion, and asked for a roll call vote. Mayor Hartsfield suggested we should have "reasonable length of time" defined. Councilman Rackers stated, if agreeable he would 1; amend the motion to give six months time in which to relocate.
