IMayor Pro tem Nacy, Chairman of the Public Utilities Committee, ;1presented the following report: ; ji On December 19, 1973, at 7: 30 o' clock p.m. , a meeting of the i 1Public Utilities Committee was held in the Office of the Mayor. Ini " attendance were Councilwoman Carolyn McDowell, Councilman Nacy and G1 Councilman Gilbert Ortmeyer. Also in attendance were Mr. Wes Farrisil l of Missouri Power and Light Company, Larry Brickey, Louis Vetter stand Larry Rushing, developers of Oak Valley West Subdivision. The purpose of the meeting was to consider the plan of lighting 11, for Oak Valley West Subdivision, a new subdivision presently under 'I development in Jefferson City. The need for the plan arose from I) the fact that all wiring must be placed underground, with stubs fore 152 . Council Meeting, January 7, 1974 . future pole installations installed in place. For this reason, the l developers and the Power and Light Company want the city to indicate! iwhi h one of several alternate lighting plans would be most accept- ', able to the City so that the underground cable work can be tnstalled, so as to accomodate that plan. After reviewing the various plans proposed, and after , discussion thereon, your Committee feels that the proposed lighting ( for this subdivision and for future subdivision lighting plans ;should be based on the same general standards that apply throughout . ;!Jefferson City, Therefore, it was determined that lights should be notated approximately 250 feet apart, and should be corner ilighting" rather than "island lighting" . In this way, it is hoped 11that the lighting in new subdivisions will be adequate, at least as . , adequate as it is elsewhere in the City, while at the same time 111keeping the cost of street lighting at a minimum. Your Committee recommends to the Council that the above Public Istandard of lighting be applied for all future subdivisions , In ,Utilities this way, when requests for street lighting are approved, the Committee Ila, .;,Report. installation will take place at the points already designated. These points should be established on a plat of the subdivision filed with the City Engineer's office by reference. Requests for lights in specific locations must still be made through your Committee subject to Council approval. Your Committee also considered a request for the removal of :1 a street light located at the corner of Orchard Lane and Western Air Drive Apparently this request is based on the fact that the J brightness of the illumination in disturbing to two property owners1,11 located across the street from each other. Your Committee considered this matter, but feels that the desires of others living in the area should be made known. Your Committee also feels that the possibility of shielding the light or,i lin reducing its intensity should be studied. Accordingly, your Committee makes no recommendation at this time , but has requested Missouri Power and Light Company to investigate the situation it further. Isl Richard R, Nacy, Jr. , Chairman.
