Plainfield Fire Protection District Fire Alarm System Plan Review Submittal Guidelines Any questions should be directed to the Plainfield Fire Protection District at 815 -436 -5335. Plainfield Fire Protection District Ordinance requires the installation of a fire alarm system for all new commercial and multifamily construction as well as renovation projects, certain remodeling projects and when a building undergoes a change in use. Prior to the installation of a fire alarm system, plans must be submitted to the Plainfield Fire Protection District for review and approval. All fire alarm installations must meet the requirements of the International Fire Code, NFPA 72, NFPA 70 and loca l amendments. FIRE ALARM SYSTEM PLAN REVIEW SUBMITTAL GUIDELINES 1. Fire alarm system plans and specifications shall be developed in accordance with NFPA 72, NFPA 70 and the International Fire Code with local amendments. 2. Plans shall be designed by persons w ho are experienced in the proper design, application, installation and testing of fire alarm systems. 3. The system designer shall be identified on the system design documents. Evidence of their qualifications shall be provided when requested by the Plainf ield Fire Protection District. 4. Submittals shall include complete information regarding the system or system alterations, including specifications, shop drawings, battery calculations and notification appliance circuit voltage drop calculations. 5. Fire alarm system components shall be installed in accordance with the manufacturer’s installation instructions and be listed for the purpose being used. 6. Installation personnel shall be supervised by persons who are qualified and experienced in the installation, insp ection and testing of fire alarm systems. Examples of qualified personnel shall include, but not be limited to, the following: a. Factory trained and certified personnel b. NICET Level II (or higher) certified personnel c. Personnel licensed or certified by a stat e or local authority 7. An NFPA 72 Record of Completion is required to be completed and provided before requesting final approval of the installation. When more than one contractor has been responsible for the installation, each contractor shall complete the portions of the form for which th ey had responsibility . 8. All new fire alarm systems are required by local ordinance to be monitored by our dispatch center WESCOM via wireless monitoring that is provided by WESCOM’s contractor. The monitoring will be installed upon successful completion of the fi re alarm system’s acceptance test and final approval. 9. All new fire alarm systems will need a set of reverse polarity contacts and a 1900 box adjacent to the fire alarm control panel providing 110V power from the same circuit that the fire alarm control panel is receiving its power from. No guarantee is rendered as to the completeness of the plan review, and the responsibility for full compliance with both state and locally adopted codes, standards and regulations rests with the owner or their authorized agent or subcontractor. Subsequent discovery of errors or omissions shall not be construed as authority to violate, cancel or set aside any provision of any applicable codes.
