Mayor Christy presided.
Roll Councilmen present: Borgmeyer, Hager, Iuen, Kliegel, Scrivner,
Call Strong, Wells and Wildhaber.
Councilmen absent: Nacy and Riner.
A quorum was declared present.
The Special Meeting of the City Council was called to explain the
procedure recommended relative to installing the Christmas
decorations on the streets and for the approval of the Council on
the program recommended.
Mark Cordell, Executive Vice President, Chamber of Commerce,
appeared before the Council. He stated that the Fire Department
had been contacted to install the Christmas decorations but had
refused. The Chamber cannot afford to have the decorations
installed privately and he requested that the Council take the
matter under consideration.
,Toe Majersky, 1708 West Main Street, a peared. He stated that the
Christmas decorations meant a lot to the community and especially
the youngsters . He said that they hoped that the Council would to
the initiative to tell and demand that they do their job.
Councilman Strong read a communication from Captain Thomas,
Salvation Army, stating that the Fire Department has refused to
assist in erecting and lighting their tree of lights , and recom-
mended that the Salvation Army by included in the Council's
decision.
The Street Department has helped with the decorations in previous
yrears and are qualified to do the ,job except at the intersection of
High and Madison Streets where they would need to use the snorkle.
To install the decorations it would take seven men, four working
days.
After much discussion, Councilman Wildhaber moved that the Mayor
direct the Fire Chief and the Street Commissioner to have their men
install the decorations with city equipment. The motion passed by
the following vote:
Councilmen voting Aye: Borgmeyer, Huger, Iuen, Kliegel, Scrivner,
Strong, Wells and Wildhaber. .
Councilmen voting Nay: None
Councilmen Absent: Nacy and Miner.
Adjournment Councilman Borgmeyer moved that the Council adjourn, under the
rules. The motion passed.
