Mayor Christy presided.
Prayer was offered by Mayor Christy. Prayer.
Councilmen present: Borgmeyer, Haake, Hawes , Hiesberger, Kliegel, Roll Call.
Riner, Sdrivner, Stone, Walther and Wildhaber.
Council absent: None.
A quorum was declared present.
The minutes of the meeting of April 16, 1968, were approved as Approval
received. of Minutes.
Robert Livingston asked the Council for permission to construct a
sidewalk at Williams and Dix Road on the Dix Road side at his own
expense.
On motion of Councilman Riner, the request was referred to the Permission
Director of Public Works, with power to act. for sidewalk
A letter of resignation was received from Charles Colter, Police Resignation
Officer, effective May 1, 1968. Charles
Councilman Scrivner moved that the resignation be accepted. Colter.
The motion passed.
A communication was received from Brooks Nicklas, requesting One hour
parking meters or one hour parking along the 400 Block of Jefferson parking on

The request was referred to the Parking & Traffic Commission.
The annual request for payment of $800 .00 was received from Woodland

Councilman Haake moved that the payment be approved. Association.

A request to rezone part of Outlot 29 from Highway Commercial "F" Planning &
to "A-2" single-family residence was received from Nentwig Invest- Zoning

The request was referred to the Planning & Zoning Commission.
A request was received from Mrs . Anton Hiesberger requesting the Public
updating and properly spacing of the old incadescent lights on Utilities
St. Mary' s Blvd. from St. Mary' s Hospital to Beck Street. Committee.
The request was referred to the Public Utilities Committee.
Lt. Duncan of the Jefferson City Police Department requested that School
the Council approve the payment of $300.00 for the annual picnic Safety
and placques for the School Safety Patrol, since the Police Patrol.
Department no longer has a benefit fund.
Councilman Scrivner moved that the amount be allowed from the
Mayor' s Contingent Fund.

Your Utilities Committee recommends the following street light
installations and payment of existing lights in annexed areas, if

they meet with the Missouri Power and Light Master Plan.
1. Replace the existing light at the corner of Lee Street and
Lee Lane, with 6800 lumen mercury vapor light.
2. Install 6800 lumen mercury vapor light on North Circle Drive
between Lavinia and Hayselton-East Circle.
3. Replace the existing lights in the 900 and 1000 blocks of Poplar
Street with 6800 lumen mercury vapor lights.
4. Replace the existing light at the emergency entrance of St.
Mary' s Hospital with 6800 lumen mercury vapor light.
5. Install 6800 lumen mercury vapor light at the intersection of
the front of St. Mary' s Hospital entrance on W. Elm Street with
6800 lumen mercury vapor light.
6. Install 6800 lumen mercury vapor light at the 400 block
Christopher place and East Miller Street.
7 . Install 6800 lumen mercury vapor light on light pole between
2505-2509 Orchard Lane.
8. Install 6800 lumen mercury vapor light in the 1700 block of
St. Mary' s Blvd.

Fire The following resolution was introduced by Councilman Hiesberger:
Committee. WHEREAS, it has pleased Almighty God, Our Father, to summon to
His immortal legions, young men of the City of Jefferson and Cole
County,
BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of Jefferson City, Missouri,
at its meeting of May 6, 1968, does mourn the passing of these
dedicated young defenders of our nation' s freedom and, as a tribute
to their memories , directs that the flags of the City of Jefferson
be posted on the poles lining the downtown area of the Capital City
and any other areas the Mayor so designates, each Saturday from
dawn to dusk until that date on which the war in Vietnam reaches
an honorable conclusion.

Missouri, that the Missouri Power & Light Company make the following
installations in accordance with recommendations presented to the
City Council by its Committee on Public Utilities and adopted by
said City Council on May 6, 1968.

Mayor Christy submitted the name of Paul Pope for appointment as Housing

Councilman Scrivner moved that the Police Department be commended Police
in the splendid work that they have done in regard to the recent Departm

Councilman Wildhaber referred the matter of sewage problems on East Director
Elm and East Miller to the Director of Public Works. of
Mr. Harold 'Thrash, 1605 E. Elm spoke in regard to the serious sew- Public Works

demanded that something be done.
Councilman Stone moved that Local 662 be officially recognized as Local No.

Councilman Hiesberger moved that the City Council instruct the Transit
Transit Authority to explore the possibility of the City' s part- Authority.

to the Council by the second Council meeting in June as to the

Planning & ' Councilman Hiesberger moved that the council refer to the Planning

Parking & Councilman Hiesberger moved that the Council instruct the Parking
Traffic and Traffic Commission make recommendations concerning the
Commission. possibility of eliminating four parking spaces in the middle of the
100 and 200 blocks of East High Street on both sides for the purpose
of establishing loading zones for business services in those blocks
and restricting all unloading and loading to those zones. This is
to say that all double parking for any purpose would thereby be
forbidden.
The motion was withdrawn since the matter had already been referred
to the Parking and Traffic Commission.
Street Councilman Kliegel referred a request of Mr. Delbert Edwards, 209
