The Special Council Meeting was called to consider the question of .;the employees of the Fire Department. "Councilman Wildhaber reported that the Fire Committee had met and had Fire De t. ;;recommended that the Finance Committee reconsider the lower two Committe !ibrackets for Firemen and Driver Firemen. Report. Firemen who ,bave worked from.one to five years be placed in the first ;year bracket. ;;Firemen who have worked over five years in the $5400 bracket. :;Captain Coulter, spokesman for the Fire Department, stated that the ;;men would not accept .this proposal, that they wanted to be paid on ,,the same scale as Columbia. ,After considerable study of the various salary brackets, Councilman Salaries ;i,Hawes moved that the Council accept the Scriven Committee Report for . ;the Fire Department, that everyone start in the first step except four men who would start at $5449. :Councilman Riner asked for a roll call vote. ;:The motion passed by the following vote: .,Councilmen voting Aye: Haake, Hawes, Kliegel, Riner, Scrivner, Stone and Walther. ;Councilmen voting Nay: Borgmeyer, Hiesberger and Wildhaber. ,Councilman Riner moved that the Firemen be paid for seven holidays Paid 'sand asked for a roll-call vote. Holidays ',The motion failed to pass by the following vote: ,Councilmen voting Aye: Haake, Hawes and Riner. ,Councilmen voting Nay: Borgmeyer, Hiesberger Kliegel, Scrivner Stone, Walther and Wildhaber. ,Ca tain Coulter stated that the Firemen would not accept proposal unless they received the paid holidays, which would cost the city approximately $9741.00 per year. He also said that the Union would not make any additional demands this fiscal year if the salaries and '.vacations were approved. 'Councilman Hawes moved that the Council adjourn, under the rules .
