HomeMy Public PortalAbout19641013 special 48 Special Council Meeting.,_ October 13, 1964 :,,.Mayor Christy in the Chair. ,Present: Debo, Haaket Hawes, Hogg, Kliegel, Skain and Willcoxon-V Roll Call. lAbsent: Riner and Scrivner, absent with leave. 2e: A quorum was declared present. ---------- diMayor Christy explained that the Special Council Meeting was called '' Special ;' in compliance with ordinance No. 7444, requiring that the City Council l;Council shall convene and canvass the declarations filed with the Meeting. ,City Clerk within 24 hours of the last day and hour for the filing iHof candidates. ---------- !'The following resolution was presented by Mayor Christy: Resolution Declaring RESOLUTION Nomination of Candidate Whereas, the Mayor of the City of Jefferson, Missouri issued a proclamation on September 28, 1964 ordering a special election �'to be held in the second ward of the City to fill the vacancy in : office created by the death of C. Jobe, Jr. , and --- f Jefferson, Missouri, Whereas, Ordinance'-10-7. 7444 the City o . provides for the holding of Primary Elections in the City for the nomination of candidates for City office, and Whereas, by the Mayor' s proclamation the date for a special .,primary election was set for October 27, 1964 and the last hour and :'date for the filing of a declaration of candidacy by candidates for ' :the office of Councilman from the second ward was fixed for 5:00 p.m. , Tuesday, October 13, 1954, and Whereas, Section 10. 160 of ordinance No. 7444 of the City ,provides, in part, as follows: Ill. . Within 24 hours of the last day and hour for the filing of declarations of candidacy for any primary election, the City Council shall convene and canvass the declarations filed with the City Clerk. 2. . If the City Council finds from its convass that only one person has filed a declaration of candidacy for the nomination to any City Office in the name of a political party, the Council shall adopt a resolution stating such finding and declare such person the nominee of his political party at the general or special City election for the office for which the person has declared. The adoption of such resolution shall make any unopposed candidate of a political party the nominee of such party for the office declared for by such cnadidate.1' Whereas, the City Council has convened at 7:00 p.m. , on ,!Tuesday, October 13, 1964, to canvass the declarations of ''candidacy above referred to, and Whereas, from its canvass the City Council finds that each person whose named Appears on Appendix "A: attached hereto is the : only person filing a declaration of candidacy for the nomination to ithe political office on behalf of the political party named on the :'Appendix, now therefore: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS: That each person whose pained appears on Appendix "A: of this resolution is hereby declared to be the candidate for the political 49 party appearing above hiA name on said Appendix for the City officet,i designated on said Appendix. Resolved Further: That each person whose name appears on ! Appendix "A: as a cnadidate for the office of City Councilman from i1 the second ward of the City is hereby declared to be nominated for that office by the political party represented by such person, Resolved Further: That the Clerk of the City of Jefferson, Missouri, shall cause a copy of this resolution to be published in the Daily Capital News and the Post-Tribune within five days from the date of its adoption.
