Mr. Edgar Eagan and Mr. William Tweedie spoke in opposition to the proposed one-way traffic. Mr. Jim McHenry stated that as a member of the Parking and Traffic Commission he recommends the one-way traffic. Mr. Kliegel stated that the City should try the two-way traffic. It was moved by Mrs. Fisher and seconded by Mr. R. Jobe that the City accept the plan of the highway Commission the way the contract was let for two-way traffic. The motion was adopted. It was moved by Mr. Will.coxon and seconded by Mr. Scrivner that a special permit be granted to Petty Hudgins and Edna Schmidt for operating a beauty parlor. The motion was adopted. Mr. . Dorr reported that the Street Committee recommends that- the alley between Hilda and Beck Street be improved. I`lie report was approved and on motion of Mr. Wil.lcoxon, seconded by Mr. Scriviier, the bid was awarded to Scheperl.e Const . Co. On motion of Mr. D. On motion of Mr. Scrivner, seconded by Mr. Willcoxon , the drainage problem in the 1000 block East High Street was referred to the City Engineer and Street Cotiunissioiier. Mr. R. L. Barnes (Home Constructions: Company) asking permission to build a sewer by private contract ] under supervision of the City Engineer. On motion' of Mr. Willcoxon, seconded by Mr. Condit, the request] Was granted provided the Board of Health approves. ;l 4 A letter was received from Mr. 0. A. Fuller requesting an exten�bion of '"C" District, of property located in Inlot 871. The matter was referred to the Planning and Zoning Commission. �� Request was received for a street light at 423 Rear E. AtchisoJ. Jobe, the bid l! of Smith Ford Sales, Inc. was accepted. Reports of City officers were received for the month of !]June, 1960. The semi-annual report of the Milk Inspector was received and 0 !;ordered filed. ( The following communication was received from Mayor Whaley. "I wish to submit the following names for reappointment to the ']Board of Trustees of Jefferson City Public Library. Dr. Lawrence Giffen Mrs. Clifford Fischer i Al Denning This is for a three year term." , The appointments were approved. The following conununication was received from Mayor Whaley. "I wish to submit the name of Theresa Adrian, 930 Fairmount for' i to the position of Clerk of Police Court and Welfare ,,Officer effective as of July 15, 1960 to fill the vacancy created by tithe resignation of Mrs. Lily Convery." The appointment was approved. The Finance Committee recommends that High Street between !Broadway to Washington, Jefferson Street, McCarty to High and Monroe; Street, McCarty to High be resurfaced with high type asphalt hot-mix. ? The report was approved. The following report was received from the Water, Gas and Light` ;Committee. "The Water, Gas and Light Committee recommends to the City Council that lights be placed at the following places: One (1) light at 423 Rear East Atchison One (1) light at last house going east on Mimosa One (1) light at dead end on Lake Street. One (1) light at 744 Locust Street. One (1) light on Bluff Street at intersection with Garfield. One (1) light on Capitol between Pine and Olive. One (1)• light at intersection of Capitol and Benton. One (1) light at intersection of Capitol and Sullivan. Two (2) lights north of Hough on Grant. Two (2) lights south of Hough on Grant. Two (2) lights on Nelson Drive, one at 602, one at 609 . Move light oil Olive to intersection of Capitol. Regular Meeting,_,_ July 1960 643 The Committee also requests Mr. Sullivan to contact the Capitol City Water Company and find out when the fire hydrant will be placed on Nelson Drive. Measure distance for an additional hydrant in the 900 block on Nelson. Use map for needed hydrants in the 1st ward in . Renn' s Addition. The report was approved. The following resolution was adopted. "Whereas, the roadways of Haigh Street from the east curb line of Washington Street to the west curb line of Broadway Street, Monroe .Street from the south curb line of High Street to the north curb line of McCarty Street, and Jefferson Street from the south curb line of High Street to the north curb line of McCarty Street, in the City of .Jefferson, Missouri, are in need 6f improvement, Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, MISSOURI: Tbat the said High Street, Monroe Street and Jefferson Street, in said City, be wedged, where necessary, with asphaltic cement material and be paved with asphaltic cement one and one-half inches (1�") thick. That the cost of said improvement, including street intersections, shall be charged against the City of Jefferson, Missouri, and the Council hereby declares the aforesaid improvement of High Street, Monroes Street and Jefferson Street necessary to be do and Resolved, That the City Engineer be and hereby is instructed to prepare plans and specifications for such improvement and an estimate of the cost thereof, and file the same in the office of the City Clerk Resolved, That when the said plans and specifications and estiw mates of the costs of said work or improvement shall have been filed' with the City Clerk, that the said City Clerk shall then cause this resolution to be published for seven consecutive insertions in the Post-Tribune, a daily newspaper published and printed in the City of Jefferson, Missouri."
