On motion made by Mr. Scrivner, the above appointments were approved. -------------------- �ti �f The Street Committee recommended the repair of storm sewer in the `` Street 100 block of Jefferson Street (approximate cost $1,000.00) . `Committee On motion made by Mr. Willcoxon, the report was approved. �iReport. -------------------- Mr. Robinson reported that the Public Health Committee met with ;; Public Mr. John Rathouz, owner of the J. C. Sanitation Company. He has " Health taken the proposed Ordinance and Contract under advisement and - Committee. will report back to the Committee-not later than June 14th. ----------- E The following report was submitted by the Chairman of the Fire Fire Dept. Department Committee: Committee May 9, 1963 Report. ii Mayor John G. Christy City of Jefferson, Missouri a Dear Mayor Christy: The Fire Department Committee met this date at the West End Fire i Department with a quorum present. The Committee reviewed the salary requests of the Department and agreed on the following recommendations for the 1963-64 fiscal : year budgeting: 1. The Fire Chief should be paid the identical salary paid to the ' Police Chief. 2. Assistant Chiefs of the Fire Department should be paid identical, :i' salaries paid to Police Captains . Fire Captains should be paid identical salary paid to Police NLieutenants. 114. Fire Lieutenants should be paid identical salaries paid to = ; Police Sergeants. ; 5. Fire Drivers should be paid identical salaries paid to Police I'Corporals. 1,: 6. Firemen should be paid identical salaries paid to Police Patrol , men. I The Fire Department committee also recommends 2 per cent logevity b paid every five years on all grades up to 20 years service and : suggests the longevity program be incorporated for members of the ,, Police Department. i i ''With these recommendations in mind, the Fire Committee endorses the ;j i �+ :' budget requests of the Fire Department which were submitted April ;; 26, 1963 , to the Finance Committee. ';The Fire Department Committee recommends Council approve another three-month extension -- from June 30 to September 30, 1963 -- on the present arrangement of answering fire alarms outside the City. , The Committee is arranging another meeting with representatives of the Jefferson Township Fire Department and feels an extension of ' ; time is needed to bargain in good faith. A shade be placed on the street light opposite 1129 E. Elm st. ,. to deflect the light from this residence. 2. A new vapor type light be installed on old Highway 50 East on 266 the south side of the road just before the intersection with St. Louis Road. ' � 3. A street light be installed in the 600 block of Swift 's Highway ;; properly spaced between the light in the 500 bolck and the inter- section with Southwest Boulevard. � 4. Low-rent RESOLUTION APPROVING APPLICATION FOR Housing or g PRELIMINARY LOAN FOR LOW-RESIT PUBLIC HOUSING Aged. WHEREAS , it is the policy of this City to eliminate is 22 substandard and other inadequate housing, to prevent the!l spread of slums and blight, and to realize as soon as feasible the goal of a decent home in a suitable living environment for all of its elderly citizens; and WHEREEAS , under the provisions of the United States Housing Act of 1937, as amended, the Public Housing Administration is authorized to provide financia� assistance to local public housing agencies for under- �� taking and carrying out preliminary planning of low- i rent elderly housing projects that will assist in I! meeting this goal; and WHEREAS , the act provides that there shall be local determination of need for low-rent elderly housing+ to meet needs not being adequately met by private enter- prise and that the Public Housing Administration shall 11 not make any contract with a public housing agency for ; preliminary loans for surveys and planning in respect i� ' to any low-rent elderly housing projects unless the i governing body of the locality involved has by resolu- tion approved the application of the public housing agency for such preliminary loan; and ? Bassman has retired as City Building Inspector after 16 years of faithful service to the City of Jefferson, and 31 WHEREAS, Mr. Bassman is now enjoying his first paid ! vacation in the period he has served the City, WHEREAS , Mr. Bassman has lived in Jefferson City nearly I' 69 years and has performed valuable and outstanding service for J; his community and his country, and WHEREAS, Mr. Bassman is a disabled veteran of World War I having served with Company D, 314 th Combat Engineers , 89th Division overseas, and WHEREAS , Mr. Bassman has had a long and distinguished ! career in the Building trade, and WHEREAS, Mr. Bassman has the confidence and respect of G all persons with whom he came in contact with or served, NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of Jefferson , Missouri extend its best wishes to Arthur A. Applicants for the position of City Clerk were interviewed. (1) Report. The Committee recommends the appointment of Mrs. Margaret Christian as Cleric to the Council. (2) Committee of the Whole recommends that the Mayor employ a bookkeeper in the office of the City Clerk. On motion made and seconded, the report was approved.
