The following report was submitted b Mr. Debo Chairman of Utilities
I 8 P Y ,
I the Utilities Committee: January 23, 1964 Committee.
I; Dear Mayor Christy: Report
Your Utilities Committee met this date with Councilmen Debo, Hogg,
and Riner present .
The Committee approves and recommends to Council the following:
1. Six 6,800 lumen mercury vapor lights be installed to replace
the present incandescent lights on Bald Hill Road, starting at the ,.
Eastern City limits and continuing into the City to a point near
Nelson Drive. This action was taken after a petition, signed by 16
' persons was presented to the Committee.
2 The City Health Inspector be instructed to tell
 y p property owners
I along Bald Hill Road to clean up the weeds and brush which are
growing across the road and may become a fire Hazard.
3. Replace two incandescent street lights on Swift' s Highway
between Pamela and Carter Streets with 6,800 lumen mercury vapor
lights . This action was taken after a petition signed by four
I persons was pressented to the Committee.
i 4. Replace the incandescent street light at the intersection of
West Atchison and Broadway streets with a 6,800 mercury vapor light.
No-petition for this change was received, but the action was re-
quested by Street Commissioner Charles Enloe. He reported several
persons have been killed or injured at this intersection and be-
lieves a better street light would help motorists to see it is a
j four-way stop. Similar complaints have been received from Rael Amos,
who lives at 223 W. Atchison . The Committee believes for the sake of
safety a brighter light should be installed at this intersection .
6. Remove the incandescent street light on the traffic island at
Fairmount Boulevard and Hillcrest street and install a new 6,800
mercury vapor light on a pole directly north and across Hillerest .
No petition for this change was received, but a request was made
by Miss Dorene Cummock of 823 Fairmount. An investigation by the
j Committee showed the present light' s effectiveness is blocked by
a tree and sheds no light westward. This makes the street very dark
in front of Miss Cummock' s home and because of her expressed fear
the Committee makes the recommendation .
6. Remove the incandescent light in front of 424 Ridgewood Drive
and replace it with a 6,800 lumen mercury vapor light. Also install,
a 6,800 lumen mercury vapor light at the intersection of Ridgewood
I.
and Marian Drive. This action was taken after the Committee was
j presented a petition signed by seven persons requesting such action .
it 7. Remove incandescent lights at the intersections of Hart and
West High Street and Hamlin and West High Street and replace them with
{ 6,800 lumen mercury vapor lights . This action was taken after the
FCommittee was presented a petition signed by eight persons re-
questing better lighting at these locations .
II 8. Remove an incandescent light at the alley between St . Peter' s
I Church and Selinger Centre and replace it with a 6,80U lumen
it
1
" and replace it with a 6,800 lumen mercury vapor light. Also installili
:. a 6,800 lumen mercury vapor light on the pole directly in front of
!; the Rectory. No petition was received for this action, but was
': requested by Monsignor Vogelweid. He said several person had fallen
, on the steps to the church and he felt additional lighting is needed-
;! Father Vogelweid requested a light in front of the rectory because il
it is available at all hours of the night and he felt additional j
is lighting was needed as a safety factor. :!
