CALL TO ORDER (Agenda Item 1):
Lou Off called the meeting to order.
ATTENDANCE AND GUESTS (Agenda Item 2):

APPROVAL OF MINUTES (Agenda Item 3):
Harvey Ferrelle motioned to approve the minutes from December 2008. Mary McCracken seconded.
All approved.
ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS REPORT (Agenda Item 4):
(COE Actions & Status sheet provided separately)
1) Tybee Coastal Zone Management Implementation:
a. Tybee has received and discussing compliance letter from Col. Kertis.
2) Channel Impact Feasibility Study:
a. Report was completed last year, $44,000 of federal funds, $24,500 non federal funds are
unexpended out of that budgeted. Money is planned to be used to jump start the
Feasibility Study to look at mitigation alternatives from the impacts to Tybee Island
from the Channel. No money will be accessible until the FY-09 budget is available.
3) Tybee Island Shore Protection Project:
a. Sand placement operations and tilling of the beach have been completed. Additional
funds will be available for Tybee when the budget is reviewed and balanced.
4) Jasper County Terminal Development:
a. Moffatt and Nichol have been hired to shepherd the effort of getting the new terminal
approved. January 8th meeting with GaDOT and the COE set the initial scope of
studies.
5) Brunswick Harbor Deepening:
a. Contractor has mobilized and on site work has now begun.
6) Jekyll Island Section 111 Project:
a. Initial project meeting was held on November 4th 2008, no new updates as of yet.
7) Savannah Channel Maintenance:
a. Marinex Corp., contractor, started in Kings Island turning basin and will continue there
for about 45 days.
b. Entrance Channel has been awarded to Great Lakes and they are currently working in
Brunswick.

8) Savannah Harbor Expansion:
a. Continuing to move forward in study phase. Executive Steering Committee has been
formed and will meet in mid February. Chloride Issue Resolution Conference was held
on January 13, 2009. Frequently Asked Questions/Answers are being prepared for the
Expansion website.
SEA WALL REMOVAL (Agenda Item 5):
Council Meeting on January 22, 2009 will discuss approval of doing a test with a contractor for
$2,500. Also adding removal to the State stimulus package, have received and continuing with
research on COE files.
PROJECTS FOR 2009 (Agenda Item 6):
Lou put together a list of suggested Beach Task Force projects for 2009 and discussed them.
OLD BUSINESS: 2009 Officers; Nominating Committee Report; Berta Beach
Monitoring/Tilling Contract Specifications, BTF News Article (Agenda Item 7):
1) 2009 Officers, Nominating Committee Report: Recommended Amy Lanier for Chair.
a. By laws call for a vote in February. Vice Chair will be an executive committee
made up of Lou Off and Berta Adams.
2) Shore protection Line: No report, Bert to follow-up upon.
3) Tilling/Monitoring Contract Specifications: No report, Diane not in attendance.
a. Eric Olsen has been working with the city on these specifications.
4) BTF News Article: It is the will of the BTF that a letter be written to the Mayor and
Council outlining Dan Parrott’s qualifications and desire to serve with the Beach Task
Force and also write the News Article.
