ATTENDANCE AND GUESTS (Agenda Item 2): APPROVAL OF MINUTES (Agenda Item 3): Lou Off moved to approve May minutes as amended. John Wylly seconded. All approved. ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS REPORT (Agenda Item 4): 1. Tybee Island Shore Protection Project a. COE is working on the refund to City. Letter should come to Tybee from the district; then City will respond agreeing to the change in total project costs. Check should be received by City sometime in July. b. Monica Dodd has incorporated all comments received to date into O & M Manual. Manual will be formally sent to the City shortly. Amy Lanier asked members of the Nourishment and Funding Sub-Committee to do a final review before the June 19th deadline. 2. Channel Impact Study a. COE is looking for innovative ways to get the Channel Impact Feasibility Report completed in a way that lessens the financial burden on the City. b. Channel Impact Study Scope of Phase 2 Meeting will be held with the COE on July 16. Lou Off proposed that the Beach Task Force have their regular meeting during the lunch break of the COE meeting. Berta Adams moved to accept Lou’s proposal and Jimmy Burke seconded. All approved. BRIGADIER GENERAL TODD SEMONITE INTRODUCTION UPDATE (Agenda Item 5): 1. Mayor Buelterman reported on the meeting held on June 10th. General Semonite was given an update on the projects that the Beach Task Force feels need to be completed. COE TELECONFERENCE UPDATE (Agenda Item 6): 1. Lou Off, Berta Adams, and Diane Schleicher attended this teleconference on June 11th. Berta reported that since there have been several studies completed in the past, those studies should be compiled and then whatever information is missing can be investigated. Lou Off said that based on the letter, Brevard County has jetties that are keeping sand from flowing from the north to the south. They sued and the COE was directed to mitigate for the damages to Brevard County. The COE was also instructed to credit them the monies that they had already spent. This subject will be investigated to see how the City can use this case to benefit the beach. It may involve getting the WRDA (Water Resource Development Act) updated through a congressional process. OLD BUSINESS (Agenda Item 8): 1. Sea Wall Removal Update – No word yet on the NOAA Grant. Mayor Buelterman asked Hampton Spradley to request from the COE that they be responsible for monitoring the Sea Wall because of the hazard it is to swimmers and possibly place signs to warn swimmers of the danger. 2. Sea Island Trip – Date for trip is set for July 10th 3. Beach Management Plan Sub-Committee Update – Freda Rutherford reported that the sub-committee met and discussed how to protect and stabilize “trouble spots” where the sand is depleting especially at Second Avenue. Questions were raised as to where the ownership line is drawn on beach front property. NEW BUSINESS (Agenda Item 9): There was discussion on investigating ways to get funding for future Beach Renourishments. The Nourishment and Funding committee will be researching these methods and asked that if any members have new ideas to let them know so that they can examine those as well. Harvey Farrell reported on Cockspur Island and the stabilization of the land. MEETING ADJOURNED (Agenda Item 10):
