Corps of Engineers seeks beach renourishment contractor
SAVANNAH, Ga. — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, seeks construction or dredging
companies to conduct a new beach reinforcement at Tybee Island, Georgia, to increase storm damage reduction.
Beach reinforcement is also known as beach renourishment.
This is the first beach renourishment since 2008 at the coastal Georgia community. The City of Tybee Island and the
Corps of Engineers jointly sponsor the project. The Corps will evaluate and award the contract and will oversee the
construction. The federal government will fund approximately 61 percent of the cost while the city will fund
approximately 39 percent.
The project will take about four months to complete, beginning in November 2014. As with similar past projects,
sections of the beach will be closed to the public while workers operate in those locations. As workers move to
another section of beach, the reinforced portions of the beach will reopen.
Corps officials expect to award the contract for the project by Sept. 30, 2014.
