HomeMy Public PortalAbout19470607SCMeeting1 1 BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED by the Mayor and Councilmen of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, in Council assembled that the follow- ing named persons; Mrs. Amy Dickey Mrs. Laura Moore Ben J. Alexander A. F. Solms, Jr., as alternate all of whom are free holders and duly qualified voters of said Town be, and the same are hereby named, the first three (3) above named as Managers and the fourth (4th) above named as Alternate Manager to supervise and manage said election. Mr. Abro Robinson, the owner of property on the south side of Center Street petitioned that vehicles be prohibited from using Center Street. Councilman Siotin moved that It be rejected, Councilman Young seconded and the motion passed. Thomas and Hutton submitted an estimate on the cost of repairing the Tilton Street groin amounting to $10,500.00. Council- man Siotin moved that the Town advertise for bids to rebuild Tilton Street groin, bids to be opened on the day of Council meeting, Councilman Young seconded and the motion passed. George W. Kent petitioned for permission to erect two signs on his property on Butler Avenue known as UThe Half Fryer ". Petition' granted. Several bids submitted by tire dealers to furnish the Town with casings and tubes was referred to the Finance Committee with power to act. The petition of S. J. and M. S. Robertson for a refund of their license was read. Councilman Siotin moved that $20.00 be refunded to them, Councilman Peters seconded and the motion passed. There being no further business,`Council adjourned subject to the call of the Mayor. Savannah Beach, Tybee Island; Oa. June 7th, 1947. A special meeting of Council was held today at 12:00 Noon in the Town Hall and was attended by Mayor Dutton, who pre- sided, and Councilman peters, Slotin, Young,Farrell, Lovell and Mr. Hugh Thomas. The meeting was called for the purpose of: 1. Receiving the report of Thomas and Hutton in connection with the emergency existing on the beach south of Tybrisa Pavilion caused by the recent north- easterly winds and spring tides affecting the seawall. 2. Hear petition of Wilson Hotel to erect a sign on First Street. Mr. Thomas informed Council that he had just made a check of the area on the beach south of Tybrisa Pavilion and found that due to recent north - easterly winds and spring tides that the beach had lowered considerably at this point also that several groins had recently been removed which reduced the protection. that was needed and that there was two methods that could be used to relieve the condition, one was to rebuild and extend the eastern end of the groins using creosoted material and that this method which would be more permanent would cost about $25,000.00 and the other method would be to put in temporary groins of untreated material which would last about two years and would cost about $5,000.00, Council- man Slotin moved that temperory groins in the area in front of the Solms Hotel be installed and that Council negotiate with the sucdessful bidder who will do the work on the Tilton Street groin and also that Thomas and Hutton be retained as Engineers to hand- le the job, Councilman peters seconded and the motion passed The petition of the Wilson Hotel to erect a sign on First Street north of Campbell Street was approved by Council. There being no further business, Council adjourned subject to the call of the Mayor. Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, Ga. June 12th, 1947. The regular meeting of Town Council was held at 4;00 P.M. in the Council Room and was attended by Mayor Duttgn, who presided, and Councilmen Lovell, Farrell, Slotin, Young, peters and Town Attorney Alexander. Sealed bids were submitted for rebuilding the Tilton Street groin and also an untreated groin between Sixteenth and Seventeenth Streets by the following firms:
