AMENDING ORDINANCE #00-27- AN ORDINANCE ELIMATING CERTAIN
PERMIT FEES FOR CARTERET SENIOR CITIZENS
WHEREAS, the Mayor and Council of the Burough of Carteret (the "Borough") recognize that
senior citizens who reside in the community are often hindered in their efft>rts to maintain their
homes by the cost of acquiring the requisite permits; and
WIIEREAS, the Mayor and Council arc committed to assisting the Borough's senior citizens
whenever possible; and
WHEREAS, the recent increase in the amount of fees collected in connection with several large
prolccts provides the Mayor and Council with the opportunity to provide some temporary relief
to senior citizens seeking to improve and or restore their home.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Mayor and Council of the Borough of
Carterel that section, 109.5 (c) of the code of the Borough of Carteret is hereby repealed and
replaced with a new subsection designated 109.(c) which shall read in its entirety:
109.5(c) (1) Effective upon execution of this ordinance by the Mayor after adoptiun by
Council and the subsequent mandatory waiting period, and continuing through
December 31, 2003; Building fees tbr resident Carteret Citizens, sixty five (65) years
-- age ur older shall be waived in connection with applications for permit to pcrfbrm
improvements or restoration work to single Ihmily homes which they own and in which
thcy reside.
(2) In order to obtain said waiver of fees the applicant must demonstrate a) their age, b)
ownership of the property lk)r which the permits (s) are sought, c) that the subject
property is a single family dwelling, d) that the person requesting the waiver actually
resides in the property which is the subject of the application.
(3) For the purpose of this section Building Fees shall be defined as Building,
Electrical, Plumbing and Fire Technical Services.
(4) Zonmg Fees. Re: the following: sheds, fences and sidewalks are exempt.
(5) Municipal Certificate of Occupancy (MCO'S) and any Zoning or Planning Board
Fees shall be calculated at full rate.
BE, IT FURTHER ORDAINED that this ordinance shall be advertised
as prescribed by law.
