Kennedy The Project will staff an informal panrr­`iip between the six Cities, providing a forum for collaboration and leveraging successes- The functioring and focus of the partnership will be determined, in targe parl, by the needs and priorities of the cities involved. Whencities need creative solutions, they often turn to other cities !or ideas, experience and inspiration. A partnership of the six cities on the forefront of installing protected bike faciltoes can be a very useful forum for information sharing and lcint problem sciving. The Project staff wM facilitate this communication, do additional research, and capture the results to share as best praOt res. Areas for discussion could include topics such as economic impacts of new facilities- successful outreach strategies, and design related issues such as ADA compliance. A second powerful aspect of the earths, ship is in working wilh, US DOT and otncagencies- 'tie partnership will function as a multi -city pilot effort to test and implement new designs and approaches, with a focus on identifying barriers and ouilding support at fiedenY and state agency revels. The Project will work with the focus cities to explore whether additional funding for implementation can be identified. BIKES BFLONG GRANTS Bikes Belong will dedicate 70% of its annual grants budget to support the focus cities in their efforts to improve and promote bicycling in their aommunities. Lyle will distribute Green Lane Project grants at least once per year in 2012 ard 2013 and will notify cities W grant deadlines and requirements approximately three months in advance of the deadline- Priority will be given to projects thi;u can be imp!omented within six to eight months of grant award, include a strong plan for measurement and evaluation, and are replicable both in the applicant city and in other U.S, cities. While the emphasis for these grants is on streetscape improvements, Bikes Belong will also consider communication and outreach projects, marketing campaigns, and other initiatives that promote bicycling for grant funding. Outside of these grants, the Green Lane Project will not provide funding for infrastructure. STUDYTOURS: The Green Lane Project will assemble policy makers, transportation professionals, and community leaders from the six focus cities to stucv, experience, and be inspired by the most advanced bicycling envirorimeMs in Europe and North America. Intensive, hands -an policy and design workshops will be offered in Denmark, the Neuierlands, and New York City in 2012 exc3usively to Project focus cities. Professionalexchanges between peer cities and international experts inspires new adepatons of proven practices that lead to safer, more effective bicycle hvrisporlalion back home- Up to four senior level policy -makers, city staff- or cc ^rn,-,inllly leaders are expected to participate in at feast one leadership tour in 2012. These include: Operations and safely of cycle tracks and related facilities How remaking streets affects adjacent businesses and the broader economy Df6fies The ability of these improvements 10 encourage more people and a broader cross-section of the population to ride bikes The Green Lane Project will work with the focus piles and other partners to develop and launch these research efforts.
