SUBJECT: PLANNING COMMISSION ACTIONS - MEETING OF AUGUST 24, 2010
SUMMARY
The City Council is requested to review the Planning Commission actions from their
meeting of August 24, 2010.
BACKGROUND
Following is a summary of actions taken at the Planning Commission meeting of August
24, 2010.
Consent Calendar
The Planning Commission approved the minutes of July 27, 2010.
New Business
1. The Planning Commission approved a Conditional Use Permit and a Zone Variance
to allow the establishment of a tutoring business know as Alpha Science Education
Institute at 9465 Las Tunas Drive. The subject site is located in the West
Commercial (WC) district of the Downtown Specific Plan. (CUP 10-1763, ZV 10-
1767) (Alpha Science Education Institute)
2. The Planning Commission approved a request for a Zone Variance to allow the
applicant to retain an existing 4 foot northerly side yard setback while constructing a
two story addition which will exceed 100% of the existing floor area. The proposal is
to maintain the existing 4 foot northerly side yard setback instead of providing a 5.5
foot setback for the existing portion of the house. The new addition will comply with
the required setbacks. The subject property is located at 5320 Barela Avenue and is
zoned Single -Family Residential (R-1). (ZV 10-1766) (Raymond Yang/Richard

Community Development Manager Lambert gave the Planning Commission
correspondence from Parks & Recreation Commissioner Peggy Miller regarding an
Eaton Wash Community Corridor workshop that she attended.
