Comments on 2B The members discussed the last planned meeting date for January in which one of the members ended up not being able to make it last minute and another member had a previous engagement. There was discussion at the planned January meeting on a preference leaning toward the badge concept and how the logo could incorporate many different things in a badge concept. Member McKee expressed that she liked the watercolor concept with the leaf concept but that an oak leaf was more like Raleigh’s ‘thing’. Page 2 of 4 Member Carroll said that Concept 2B (the badge concept) felt like it had an Asian aesthetic with the look of the bridge and the leaf icon, but she could see it changed to be more ‘Hillsborough’. Ms. Campbell suggested using the badge concept if everyone liked it and incorporating Occoneechee Mountain, downtown buildings, Riverwalk, etc. She said that she did not think it would be difficult to do. Member Tesoro said that if they are going to run into problems with design hours that the Chamber has a graphic designer that they have used and been very happy with. Ms. Campbell said that they were fine on design hours as far as she knew. Member Carroll commented that she wanted to try to include some of the icons from the concept where the icons make up the state of NC like the books, knife and fork, music notes, beer, guitar, etc. She gave Ms. Campbell the icons she circled as favorites and there was concurrence with other members. Ms. Campbell said that a badge may work on mug or something too. Member Tesoro asked if there needed to be a tagline or tagline ideas. Member McKee said that there was discussion and recalled the three word idea. Ms. Campbell said that taglines are tricky and that right now we’re using the tagline on the website. Member McKee asked if they would want a tagline on everything or one logo with it or without. Ms. Campbell said that the graphic design firm could make variations with and without a tagline. She said that they could work on taglines once the logo was further along. Member Tesoro suggested a new tagline or badge variation be ‘rolled out’ every few years so that they could be collected or would just be a little different every time someone came to visit. Member McKee asked if someone in Town was still making pewter ornaments. Member Tesoro said that the Chamber made those ornaments. She said that they sold the remainder from years ago to the Visitors Center to sell at Christmas time, but that they weren’t printing new ones. She said that they were very expensive to have made and would need to be marked up to make a profit and then they might not sell. Member Carroll said that it could be made from something less expensive then pewter so that the price would come down. She said that she knows there are people that just have to have the ornament every year if they are collecting them. Page 3 of 4 Member Tesoro said that they could do them with that kind of foil metal. She said that the Chamber will probably not print anything like that but they might bring the mugs back with the historic properties. Member McKee said that she would want actual buildings from Hillsborough. Ms. Campbell asked which buildings. Member McKee said courthouse, james pharmacy or general Churton st. storefronts, and nash hooper house were all ideas. Member Carroll said the Burwell School could be neat. Ms. Campbell said that to stay neutral they could do Old Courthouse and Alexander Dickson house that way no one can be upset that they weren’t included. Member Tesoro asked how they’d portray the Riverwalk. Ms. Campbell said they could do a trail and a bridge that looked similar. Member McKee said they would want the Eno river flowing. Motion: Member Tesoro motioned to go with concept 2B the badge concept, with the suggestions made during the meeting. Second: Member Carroll seconded. Vote: Unanimous. V. Update on next steps for Official Visitors Map & Visitors and Relocation Guide Ms. Campbell said that she was going to set up a meeting with Kompleks now that there is a concept for the logo. VI.
