Pulido, City Manager/ By: Cathy Burroughs, Director f'Parks and Recreation C-ki SUBJECT: PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION ACTIONS — MEETING OF OCTOBER 20, 2010 RECOMMENDATION: The City Council is requested to receive and file the Parks and Recreation Commission Actions. BACKGROUND: Following is a summary of actions taken at the October 20, 2010 Parks and Recreation Commission meeting: 1. REVIEW OF THE LIVE OAK PARK TENNIS COURTS USE POLICY IN REGARDS TO PRIVATE LESSONS AND RESERVED USE BY NON- RESIDENT GROUPS The Commission began a discussion of the policies and procedures for the use of the tennis courts at Live Oak Park. After hearing from the public the Commission approved the formation of an ad hoc committee, comprised of Chairman Olivas and Vice -Chairman Arrighi, to meet with staff and other interested parties. The ad hoc committee will discuss various issues including private lessons on the courts, reserved use of the courts by resident or non- resident organizations, policies for use of the courts, fees, etc. The ad hoc committee will ultimately forward recommendations to the Parks and Recreation Commission for consideration. 2. REQUEST FROM COUNCILMEMBER BLUM REGARDING PROJECTS FOR THE EATON WASH CORRIDOR The Commission reviewed information provided for, and received from, the recent Eaton Wash Corridor Community Workshops. The Commission felt all City Council November 2, 2010 Page 2 potential projects were identified during the meetings and recommended they wait until the draft plan has been completed to discuss further. The draft plan is expected to be completed in November, 2010. 3. REQUEST FROM MAYOR PRO TEM CHAVEZ REGARDING A PARK PATROL PROGRAM The Commission began a discussion on possible park patrol programs and tabled this item to a future meeting to allow staff to survey other cities to determine what types of patrol or enforcement programs are effective. The Commission also requested a joint meeting be scheduled with the Public Safety Commission to discuss this item further. CONCLUSION: The City Council is requested to review the Parks and Recreation Commission actions of their meeting of October 20, 2010. FISCAL IMPACT This item does not have an impact on the Fiscal Year (FY) 2010-11 City Budget.
