City of Temple City
Public Arts Advisory Group
(DRAFT PROPOSAL -12/15/10)
PURPOSE OF THE ADVISORY GROUP: Identify Public Art that would be appropriate
and desirable in enhancing the aesthetics and quality of life in Temple City;
recommend an organizational structure for addressing public art in the City on an
ongoing basis.
The Advisory Group would report to the City Council in 2 months after formation
and as appropriate thereafter. They would meet at mutually agreeable times and
places.
Possible forms of Public Art: Sculptures, murals, Historic/Informational Plaques,
banners (permanent and seasonal), art display venues, decorative lighting,
Clock towers, monuments, photography displays, fountains, etc.
Possible Tasks:
Identify existing Public Art in the City
Identify what other cities have done or are doing (get input from them
on successes, challenges and lessons learned).
Identify possible organizational structures that would address public
art in the city on an ongoing basis
Develop information on possible themes and locations.
Identify potential artisans
Determine possible costs, and sources of funding.
Think thru maintenance responsibilities,
Possible Participants:
3-7 art knowledgeable citizens; representative from TCUSD.
