Flandrick, City Clerk SUBJECT: CONSIDERATION OF PROPOSED RESOLUTION NO. 11-4732 CONFIRMING APPOINTMENT TO THE PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION: The City Council is requested to adopt proposed Resolution No. 11-4732 confirming the appointment of Pam Vigil to the Parks and Recreation Commission with a term of office ending June 30, 2012. BACKGROUND: 1. On December 7, 2010, Chris Goad submitted a letter of resignation for his position of Parks and Recreation Commissioner, leaving a vacancy on that Commission. 2. On December 7, 2010, at the City Council Regular Meeting, the City Council appointed Councilmember Sternquist and Mayor Pro Tem Chavez as a selection committee to review and recommend an appointment to fill the Commission vacancy. 3. During that same week, staff advertised the Commission opening on the City's website, notice board, and the City Manager's Report. One new application was received. 4. Councilmember Sternquist and Mayor Pro Tem Chavez reviewed applications of those who had previously applied and indicated they would still be interested in serving on the Parks and Recreation Commission. 5. On January 4, 2011, the new applicant was interviewed for this position. 6. On February 15, 2011, at the City Council Regular Meeting, Councilmember Sternquist and Mayor Pro Tem Chavez informed the City Council of their City Council March 1, 2011 Page 2 recommendation to appoint Pam Vigil to the Parks and Recreation Commission. Ms. Vigil had previously applied for and was interviewed for this position the City Council at a Special Meeting on July 6, 2009. ANALYSIS: The appointee to the Parks and Recreation Commission will fill an unexpired term of office ending June 20, 2012. A resolution of appointment is presented for Council's consideration and adoption. If appointed, Ms. Vigil will receive her Oath of Office at the City Council Meeting of March 15, 2011. CONCLUSION: The City Council is requested to accept the selection committee's recommendation and adopt proposed Resolution No. 11-4732 confirming appointment of Pam Vigil to the Parks and Recreation Commission with a term of office ending June 30, 2012. FISCAL IMPACT This item does not have an impact on the Fiscal Year (FY) 2010-11 City Budget. ATTACHMENT(S) A. Resolution No. 11-4732 RESOLUTION NO. 11-4732 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TEMPLE CITY CONFIRMING APPOINTMENTS TO THE PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TEMPLE CITY DOES HEREBY RESOLVE, DETERMINE AND ORDER AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. That Pam Vigil is hereby appointed to the Parks and Recreation Commission of the City of Temple City. Said term to expire on June 30, 2012. SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall certify to the passage and adoption of this resolution. PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED on this 1st day of March 2011.
