SUBJECT: PLANNING COMMISSION ACTIONS - MEETING OF FEBRUARY 22,
2011
RECOMMENDATION:
The City Council is requested to receive and file the Planning Commission actions from
their meeting of February 22, 2011.
BACKGROUND:
Following is a summary of actions taken at the Planning Commission meeting of
February 22, 2011.
1. CONSENT CALENDAR
A. The Planning Commission approved the minutes of February 8, 2011.
2. NEW BUSINESS
A. The Planning Commission adopted a Resolution recommending that the City
Council adopt an Ordinance prohibiting medical marijuana dispensaries in
Temple City. The proposed Ordinance would add Section 9459 to Article T of
Chapter 1 of Title 9 of the Temple City Municipal Code, prohibiting the
establishment and operation of medical marijuana dispensaries in the city.
B. The Planning Commission considered a request for a zone change and
conditional use permit (ZC 09-1741 & CUP 11-1778) to construct a 75,000
square foot commercial retail shopping center called "The Gateway."
The proposed project involves a zone change from MUZ (Mixed -Use) to
C-2 (General Commercial), and a conditional use permit to construct a

shopping center having two or more units and more than thirty thousand (30,000)
square feet of lot area. The proposed development consists of
approximately 49,500 square feet of retail space, 14,500 square feet of
office space, and 11,000 square feet of restaurant space. After
conducting a public hearing on this matter, the Planning Commission adopted a
Resolution recommending that the City Council approve the Zone Change,
Conditional Use Permit, and adopt the Subsequent Mitigated Negative
Declaration.
3. COMMUNICATIONS
A. Staff updated the Planning Commission regarding the citywide Bicycle
Master Plan and reminded the Planning Commission that a special joint
meeting of the Planning Commission and Public Safety Commission will be
held March 9 regarding the citywide Bicycle Master Plan.
B. Staff updated the Planning Commission regarding the Rosemead Boulevard
Safety Enhancement and Beautification Project.
4 ADJOURNMENT
The Planning Commission meeting was adjourned at 9:22 p.m.
CONCLUSION:
The City Council is requested to review the Planning Commission actions of their
meeting of February 22, 2011.

This item does not have an impact on the Fiscal Year (FY) 2010-11 City Budget.
