MSD Planning Group evaluated study area
Problems Identified
–Leaky pipes due to issues such as
open/offset joints and cracks
–Public sewer pipe has deteriorated beyond
rehabilitation due to age
–Sewers are surcharging during intense
rainfall events
Project Goals
This project will:
1.Reduce basement backups and wastewater
sewer overflows;
2.Increase system capacity.

Sewer Relief Design Solution
–Construct approximately 8,000 feet of
12 to 24 inch diameter sanitary sewer

Easements
–14 new easements (estimated)
–Permanent Easements
•Gives MSD the right to construct and maintain
•Includes associated working room for staging &
construction
•Trees within the easement will likely be taken
–Temporary Construction Easements
•Gives MSD the right to excavate and/or remove
trees
•Expires after construction is complete
–ROW agent will make contact if an easement is
needed

Completed Design –Summer 2017

Work will be completed one section (reach) at a time.
Complete Duration –up to 18 months
Final restoration is subject to weather and season.

prior to construction
Trees in the project area will be
removed prior to mobilizing
50 to 100 feet of sewer pipe will
be installed per day
Restoration: sod/seed,
pavement, fences, etc.

Construction
Property owners should contact
the MSD inspector with a problem
(not the contractor)
MSD Inspectors travel between
several project sites, but should be
on your site at least two times
every day
If you make a special agreement
with the contractor, get it in
writing and provide a copy to
MSD so they can help if the
contractor doesn’t honor his
agreement with you
