HomeMy Public PortalAbout20150210Bicycle Friendly meeting notes.docxBicycle / Pedestrian Friendly Committee Notes from February 10, 2015 meeting ATTENDEES: Sunni Brown, Bill Garbett, Paul Wolff, Diane Schleicher, Chantel Morton, Bruce Saunders, John Bennett, Vicki Worden, Joe Wilson, Sara Chambers, and Michael Bodine Ms. Brown called the meeting to order. Mr. Garbett moved to approve the minutes from the last meeting. Mr. Wolff seconded. The minutes were approved. Old Business: Update on Bicycle/Pedestrian Path – North of Hwy 80 Ms. Schleicher stated that the project is moving along. She stated she is not aware of anyone against it and the path is receiving good reviews. Review Tybee Island Youth Bicycle Rally on Sunday, October 19, 2014 Ms. Schleicher stated that the Youth Bicycle Rally only had about twelve children participating. Healthy Savannah participated. Ms. Schleicher stated that a special event permit would be needed; cones are needed and escorts are needed. Proposed date of May 9th: 10:00am-2:00pm Healthy Kids; 1:00pm-3:00pm event Ms. Schleicher said that there should be focus on adults. Mr. Bennett stated that there is a true beginners program that targets adults. Mr. Garbett suggested that maintenance should be taught. The committee discussed the details of the rally, including the route and stations along the route. New Business: Review RS& H Jones Avenue Pedestrian – Bicycle Study and Recommendations Ms. Schleicher stated that there would be no widening of Jones and the stop signs are good as currently placed. She stated that there would be an RFP to pave and center line placed. There will be three cross walk locations. The committee discussed road markings and signage. Action Items: Mr. Bennett will confirm May 9 Sara will confirm 1:00pm-3:00pm in Memorial Park Jones paved by Irish Heritage, should take 3-5 days Water line done by February 28 Ms. Davis explained that an area for pedestrian study has been added by the lighthouse. She gave an overview of the traffic calming study. Ms. Schleicher said that she will add to the next council agenda to do the Jones Ave study first. If approved, the estimate is three months to finish. Ms. Schleicher discussed the Safe Routes to School / DOT Program. She said that she would approach the Maritime Academy about it. Mr. Wolff made a motion to adjourn. Mr. Garbett seconded the motion. The meeting was adjourned.
