REQUESTING NEW JERSEY TRANSIT TO ELIMINATE A
BUS STOP LOCATED AT THE CORNER OF ROOSEVELT
AVENUE AND HAYWARD AVENUE
WHEREAS, New Jersey Transit provides passenger bus services in the Borough of
Carteret, County of Middlesex, State of New Jersey; and
WHEREAS, as a part of the aforementioned bus services provided by New Jersey
Transit, a bus stop for the pick-up and drop-off of passengers is located at the comer of
Roosevelt and Hayward Avenues; and
WHEREAS, said bus stop at the comer of Roosevelt Avenue and Hayward Avenue is
directly adjacent to the Nathan Hale Public School which serves approximately 450 pre-
kindergarten through fifth grade elementary students, many of whom are required to
cross the street at this intersection; and
WHEREAS, the stopping of a passenger bus at this location creates a safety hazard for
the students attempting to cross at the comer of Roosevelt and Hayward Avenues by
interfering with the crossing guard's ability to adequately supervise the students; and
WHEREAS, there arc other bus stops located in the immediate vicinity of the bus stop
located on the comer of Roosevelt Avenue and Haywood Avenue sufficient to adequately
serve New Jersey Transit Riders.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Councii of the Borough
of Carteret, County of Middlesex, and State of New Jersey, that the New Jersey Transit
Bus Stop located at the comer of Roosevelt Avenue and Hay~vard Avenue in the
westbound lane of Roosevelt Avenue be eliminated for safety reasons.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a ccrtified copy of this resolution shall be
forwarded to New Jersey Transit.
