Councilman Slotin wanted to know the stftus of those who - had not connected to the sewerage system, the V yor informed him that subpoenas were issued ngai net those who hpd not connected and that they were brought.; into Court end each was fined 1100 and a sentence wes susnended uoon condition that they would connect to the sewerage system not later than ,April 1, 1949. Councilmnn Slotin stated that since the Town could not increase its taxes by 25 %, thrt it might be possible to use the annual Groin Pc seawall collection which would amount to about $4500, add to this $4000 from the Parking Sprees and then put on a garbage collection tr:x which should bring in rbout 11500, this would ma =ke r total of :$10,000, which could be used in paying off any obligation incurred by the Town to repair the groins. He requested Yr. Alexander to check on the isCuence of Revenue certificates •nd niso to discuss the matter with Johnson Lane rnd Space. Councilman Lovell moved that a Committee consisting of the Mayor, Town Attorney and. the Chairman of the Finance Committee be appointed to investigate ways and means of financing beach protection, also issuing Revenue certificates, if legal, =nd with authority to act. Councilman t ?osti seconded end the motion gassed. The Mayor informed Council that he had an offer° of $2500 for the large electric crane in the Towns ! chine Shop, the Buyer to remove same. Council authorized the purchase of cigarettes and tobacco for the guards and prisoners at the public ? °dorks camp for Christmas. Town r,ttorney Alexander called Council's attention to the September report of the Grand Jury-showing the bad conditions ex- isting apt the Tybee school. Councilman grown moved that the following resolution be adopted, Councilman Biotin seconded ?nd the motion passed. A RIISOLUTION WHEREAS, the Mayor and Councilmen of Savannah Reach, Tybee Island, h:-ve had their attention called to the report, of the Septem- ber, 1948, CTrand Jury of this county, concerning the condition of the Elementary-School et savannah ??each; AND, WHEREAS, weld !Wand. Jury has found, in its opinion, the present method of heating said school with wood stoves consti- tutes a fire hazard; BE IT, THEREFORE, RESOLVED, by the Mayor and Councilmen of Savannah 'Reach, Tvbee Island, that the Board of Education of Chatham County, be reruested to take immediate steps to eliminate this hazard in accordance with the recommendations of the Grand Jury, so that the lives rand nronerty of the children and teachers at said school may not be endangered.
