HomeMy Public PortalAbout19490614SCMeeting220 A RESOLUTION WHEREAS, the Chatham County Commissioners end Ex Officio Judges have rendered aid and assistance of inestimable value to the Town of Savannah Beach by making available to the services of prisoners who ire under their control; and, WHEREAS, when at certain times the number of local prison- ers decreased to such an extent that there were none available, the Honorable E. W. Cubbedge of said body, Chairman of the public Works Committee, hes in e commendable spirit of public interest, with the cooperation of Honorable L. 0 Burns, Warden, Chatham Councy, Georgia, secured prisoners from the State authorities for assignment to public services at the Town of Savannah Beach. BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the appreciation of the Mayor and Councilmen of the Town of Savannah Beach in assembly, as well es the thanks of the citizens at large, be extended to the County Commissioners and Ex Officio Judges for their valuable cooperation in supplying this aasistance; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the thanks of the Mayor and Councilmen and citizens of Savannah Beach be especially extend- ed to the Honorable E. W. Cubbedge and to the Honorable L. C. Burns for their efforts in this worthwhile accomplishment. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourn- ed, subject to the call of the Mayor. Mayor Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, Ga. June 14, 1949 A special meeting of Town Council was held tonight at 9:30 P. M. in the Town Hall and was nttended by the Mayor, who presid, ed, and Councilmen Peters, Meddin, Hosti, Lovell, Town Attorney Solms, Jr., and Councilman -Elect Smith. The meeting was called for the purpose of receiving the returns of the managers of the Special Election held on this date and declaring the duly elected Mayor and Councilmen of said elec- tion. The report of the Managers was read: We, the undersigned, who were duly appointed as Managers of the election for Mayor and Councilmen of the Town of Savannah Beach, by resolution adopted by Council at a meeting held on May 19th, 1949, and who have conducted said election held on June 14, 1949, in accordance with the provisions of the Charter of Savan- nah Beach, Tybee Island, and the laws of the State of Georgia 221 applicable thereto, do hereby certify that said election was held on June 14, 1949, in accordance with the law, end that the follow- ing candidates received the number of votes set forth opposite their names for said offices, in said election: Edward A. Dutton D. G. Richart For Mayor 484 Votes 281 Votes For Councilmen who are residents and domiciled in Chatham County, outside the corporate limits of the Town of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, and own property at Savannah Beach, Tybee Island. John L. Durden N. J. Frizelle William S. Lovell Alexander Meddin C. H. Mordecai John A. Peters For Councilmen who are bona fide residents and domiciled within the corporate limits of the Town of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island. James A. Brown Benno P. Hosts W. Lasky B. Dutton has received the highest number of votes cast for and candidate for Mayor of said Town; that John A. Peters, Alexander Meddin and William S. Lovell , have received the highest number of votes cast for the office of Councilmen of said Town who are bona fide residents and domiciled in Chatham County, outside of the corporate limits of the Town of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, and own property at savannah Beach, Tybee Island, and that James A. Brown , B. P. Hosti , and Thomas F. Buckley Notary public, Chatham County, Georgia Councilman peters moved that the report of the Managers be accepted and that the following Resolution be adopted, Councilman Hosti seconded and the motion passed. RESOLUTION WHEREAS, the managers duly named by Resolution passed by the Mayor and Councilmen of the Town of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, Georgia, in Council assembled, on the 19th day of May, 1949 to conduct the election just concluded and held on this the V-th day of June 1949, at Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, for the purpose of electing a Mayor and six (6) Councilmen, three (3) of whom shell be bona fide residents and domiciled within the corporate limits of the Town of Sa ?annah Beach, Tybee Island, and (3) three of whom shall be bona fide residents and domiciled in Chatham County, outside the corporate limits of the Town of Savan- nah Beach, Tybee Island, and who shall own property et Savannah beach, Tybee Island, to hold office until their successors have been duly elected and qualified, have made the consolidated re- turns and /or results to the Mayor and Councilmen calling said elec- tion, which consolidation was done in the presence of and together with the several managers; and WHEREAS, it appears that Edward A. Dutton received the highest number of votes for Mayor of the Town of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island; and WHEREAS, James A. Brown , Benno p. Hosts , and Thomas F. Smith , received the highest number of votes for Councilmen of the Town of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, who are bona fide residents and domiciled within the corporate limits of the Town of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island; and John A. Peters, Alexander Meddin, and William S. Lovell, received the highest number af votes for Council- men OT the Town of S'-.va.nneh Beach, Tybee Island, who are bona fide residents and domiciled in Chatham County, outside the corporate limits of the Town of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Councilmen of the Town of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, in Council assembled, 1 1 1 and it is hereby resolved by the authority of the same that the result of said election be and the same is hereby declared as electing; Edward A. Dutton PS mayor John A. Peters as Councilman Alexander Meddin as Councilman William S. Lovell as Councilman Benno P. Hosti as Councilman James A. Brown as Councilman Thomas F. Smith as Councilman for the Town of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, to hold office until their successors are elected and duly qualified; said results appearing from the returns of said election managers, which said returns are hereby adopted and made a part hereof. There being no further business, Council adjourned, subject to the call of the Mayor. 223 Mayor Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, Georgia. June 16, 1949 The regular meeting of Town Council was held today at 8 P.M. in the Town Hall an' was attended by the Mayor, who presided, and Councilmen Peters, young, Brown, Meddin, Lovell, Hosti, Town Attor- ney Solms, Jr., Councilman -Elect Smith and Mr. Tommy Reed. Mr. Reed stated that the concrete slabs are about through and work should start upon the sea-wall very soon and that as soon as the weather permitted he would start spraying the island with DDT. The ditches are all in good shape. He hes eleven (11) prison- ers on the garbage end ten (10) on the sea -wall jobs. Councilman Young moved that a blinker traffic light be placed on the auto road and Campbell Street. Councilman Peters seconded and the motion passed. Councilman Brown presented a petition from Mr. I. A. Wilson protesting against the noise at night during the operation of a Bingo game located on 16th Street, she contending its a nuisance.
