A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD
APPROVING THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE YOUTH SPORTS VENUE
ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM.
WHEREAS, the City of Lynwood is a community with almost thirty-
thousand (30,000) school age children attending a total of nineteen (19) public
schools including three (3) middle schools, two (2) high schools, 2 special service
and twelve (12) elementary schools; and
WHEREAS, the City of Lynwood currently has an inventory of two (2)
community parks completed, open and available to the community; and
WHEREAS, these two parks contain a total of three soccer, four
baseball/softball and one multi-purpose athletic field; and
WHEREAS, the City's Youth Sports Programs currently serve nearly
5,000 youth on an annual basis; and
WHEREAS, ,our community has a uniquely strong level of parent
participation as parental attendance and participation in our local Youth Sports
Programs exceeds seventy percent (70%) or a total of 3,500 parents; and
WHEREAS, the City of Lynwood is currently in the midst of a very
aggressive parks and recreation facilities improvement program; and
WHEREAS, the City has injected numerous funding sources into the
development of these projects including various grants, community development
block grant funds, utility authority funds as well as general funds. However,
these funding sources provide only a portion of the costs associated with the
above as well as various other projects; and
WHEREAS, based upon this fact as well as both the level of community
participation in youth sports activities as well as the limited number of available
sports venues to facilitate these programs, staff has developed a program called
the Youth Sports Venue Enhancement Program; and
WHEREAS, this program is designed as a public and private sector partnership,
thusly limiting the burden for these improvements on the local taxpayers.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. That the City Council approves the implementation of the Youth
Sports Venue Enhancement Program and authorizes staff to select and contact
appropriate companies doing business with the City of Lynwood to participate in
this program.
Section 2. That this resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
