Thomas F. Smith as Councilman
for the Town of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, to hold office
until their successors are elected and duly qualified; said
results appearing from the returns of said election managers,
which said returns are hereby adopted and made a part hereof.
There being no further business, Council adjourned,
subject to the call of the Mayor.

June 16, 1949
The regular meeting of Town Council was held today at 8 P.M.
in the Town Hall an' was attended by the Mayor, who presided, and
Councilmen Peters, young, Brown, Meddin, Lovell, Hosti, Town Attor-
ney Solms, Jr., Councilman -Elect Smith and Mr. Tommy Reed.
Mr. Reed stated that the concrete slabs are about through
and work should start upon the sea-wall very soon and that as soon
as the weather permitted he would start spraying the island with
DDT. The ditches are all in good shape. He hes eleven (11) prison-
ers on the garbage end ten (10) on the sea -wall jobs.
Councilman Young moved that a blinker traffic light be
placed on the auto road and Campbell Street. Councilman Peters
seconded and the motion passed.
Councilman Brown presented a petition from Mr. I. A. Wilson
protesting against the noise at night during the operation of a
Bingo game located on 16th Street, she contending its a nuisance.

Councilman peters stated that any unreasonable noises should be
toned down and toyed that all outside loud speakers should be dis-
continued after 9 P. M. Councilman Brown seconded and the motion
passed.
Councilman Young informed Council that this would be his
last meeting as a member of the Board, he appreciated the courte-
sies extended him, he enjoyed working with the Board and was leav-
ing with the best of wishes and n successful tenure of office to
all. Mayor Dutton stated that he was going to be greatly missed
and that he would always be welcome st future meetings. Councilman
Meddin moved that a vote of thanks be extended Councilman Young on
his lenving. Councilman Peters seconded and the motion passed.
The petition of the Savannah each Volunteer Fire Depart-
ment requesting the building occupied by them be deeded to them
was again brought up, after some discussion a committee consisting
of Councilmen Prown, Lovell and Peters were appointed to check on
the matter and report beck.
Councilman Peters moved that bills for the month of May
amounting to $2937.45 for the general fund and for the groin and
sea-well account amounting to $6614.47 be paid. Councilman Meddin
seconded and the motion passed.
An old bill presented by the Tybee Water Works covering
water service was referred to Councilman Lovell for handling.
The Savannah Pesch Volunteer Fire Department invited the
Mayor and Councilman to hold their inaugural ceremonies at the
Fireman's Club Building. The matter was referred to a committee.
Some of the property owners on Horse Pen Hammock request-
ed that severs1 street lights be placed on Campbell Street in thet
area, referred to Councilman Brown.
Mrs. Elizabeth Bailey presented a bill for $8.00 for some
work done by a private plumber, she contending that the Town was
at fault. Referred to the Town Attorney.
Mr. Solms informed Council that the suit of Mrs. Mary
Gignilliat was now in the Court and eaked whet he should do.
Councilman Peters moved that he proceed with the case in Court.
Councilmen Lovell seconded and the motion passed.
Councilmen Brown stated that the Town had a number of rock-
ing-chairs that were not being used and moved thpt the matter be
referred to the Finance Committee with power to act. Councilman
Meddin seconded and the motion pnssed.
The Mayor stRted that inauguration ceremonies for the new
Board would take place on July 46th st 8 P. M. in.the auditorium
and that Judge B. B. Heery would adtinister the onth.
The Mayor introduced Councilman-Elect Thomas F. Smith as
the new member of Council, he was greeted by the men of the Board
who welcomed him as P new member of the official family. Mr. Smith

thanked all for their well wishes end stated that he will need help
and will cooperate.
Councilmen Peters moved that all of the Appointive Officers
and Erployees of the Town be re- appointed. Councilman Hosti second-
ed end the motion passed.
There being no further business, Council adjourned, subject
to the all of the P' yor.

A special meeting of Town Council was held at 6 p. M. in the
Council Room end was attended by Mayor Dutton, who presided, Council-
men peters, Brown, Meddin, Lovell end Town Attorney, Solms, Jr..
The meeting was called for the purpose of considering or not
the Town wishes to convey Lot 3, Block 15, Ft. Screven ward and the
improvements to the Savannah Reach Volunteer Fire Department for
services which they have rendered to the municipality.
The Committee appointed to investigate the matter reported
that the property should be turned over to them, Councilman Peters
moved that the following resolution be adopted, Councilman Brown
seconded and the motion passed.
A RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, the Savannah Beach Volunteer Fire Department has
requested that the Mayor and Councilmen of Savannah Beach make
available to it the property and improvements owned by Savannah
Beach, Tybee Island, located in the old Fort Screven Reservation
and used formerly by the United States Government as a fire house,
so that it may be used by the members of said Department for club
rooms and recreational purposes, and has expressed its desire to
make certain permanent improvements on the property;
AND WHEREAS, the Mayor and Councilmen of Savannah Beach,
Tybee Island, are very appreciative of the excellent work that has
been done by the members of the Department in past years, and desire
to assist the Department in providing such facilities;
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED by the Mayor and Councilmen of
Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, in Council assembled that the Mayor
of said Town be, and he is hereby authorized to convey to the
