Brown, do solemnly swear that we will faithfully and honestly perform the duties of Council- men of the Town of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, to the best of our skill and ability, without favor or affection, so help me God. /s/ R. Brown Judge Heery also congratulated the newly elected Councilmen and wished for them a useful and successful administration of office. The Mayor extended thanks to Judge Leery for administering the oaths and also extended thanks to 1!'r. Alec Lawrence, Mr. Henry Dunn, Mayor Wook and others for their interest in attending the in- auguration, he also extended thanks to the large number of people who turned out for the inauguration and extended thanks to those who had sent such beautiful flowers for the occasion, after which everyone went to Mmeorial park for an outdoor supper. There being no further business, Council adjourned subject to the call of the Mayor. Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, Ga. July 21, 1949 The regular meeting of Council was held today at 8 p. M. in the Council Room and was attended by Mayor Dutton, who presided, Councilmen peters, Hosti, Brown, Smith, Lovell, Meddin, Town Attor- ney Solms, Jr., Mr. Thomas Reed and Mr. Jos. J. Hutton. Mr. Hutton stated that the crane that was gotten for use at the sea -wall was not large enough to handle the load, and it would be necessary to get a larger one, he also stated that if they do not hit rocks below the surface when slabs are being jetted down that the job should be completed in about six weeks and that work was started yesturday, the Mayor appointed a committee consisting of Councilman Meddin and peters to endeavor to borrow a larger size crane that will handle the work. Mr. Hutton wns excused. 228 Mr. Reed turned in a list of those who have not the proper type of garbage cans, he also called attention to bushes and shrubb- ery planted in the streets so as to block the view of vehicles ap- proaching an intersection and stated that this should be corrected. The minutes of April 14th and may 19th were read and adopt- ed. The Mayor reported that license collections are considerably off and asked Chief Stewart what was wrong. The Chief stated that he was ready to put those who had not paid their licenses on the docket for the forthcoming Saturday. Councilman Lovell stated that he was handling with Mr. C. F. Powers of the Tybee Water Works the bill against the Town for $195.00 for water service. Mr. Solms stated that he had handled with Mr. Spiriders the sale of the rocking chairs owned by the Town at $3.00 per chair and that Mr. Spiriders was not interested. Councilman Lovell wanted to know what the status was of the proposed bridge on 5th Street leading to the 1- H Camp, Mr. Solms, said, onothing so faro. Councilman Rrown said that a blower is needed for use at the pumping stations to blow gases out, as the men servicing these sttions have refused to go into them, as one man has recently been knocked out when going into one of the stations, he had gotten sev- eral prices on the necessary equipment. Councilman Peters moved that the matter be referred to Chsirmen of the Finance & Sewerage committee with power to act. Councilman Hosti seconded and the motion passed. Councilman Brown stated that the Town has an old N. C. Reg- ister, that had been used at the parking areas that was damaged in the 1947 hurricane, it would cost $145.00 to repair it, apparently the Town does not need it and he would offer $50.00 for it and have it repaired to be used on the Fishing Pier, Councilman Peters moved that it be sold to the Savannah Beach Fishing pier Corporation for $50.00, Councilman Lovell seconded and the motion passed. Mitchell R. Young filed application for the position of Electrical Inspector, now held by Victor Reynolds, the matter was referred to the Mayor. A petition was read from Mr. H. L. Bowyer, Jr., a property owner of Ft. Screven, objecting to the noises created by the Teen Agers in a building recently turned over to them in Ft. Screven. A letter was read from Lindsay & Morgan Company requesting payment of their bill, the original estimate was $105.50, covering the installation of a curtain on the stage of the auditorium, it was found when the work was started that it was necessary to use a heavier rod to support the curtain, they contacted Mrs. Eugenia Willis who supervised the installation and she authorized them to use the heavier rod stating that she would handle the matter with Councilman rown, at the present time Mrs. Willis is away at summer school. The Clerk was instructed to inform Lindsay & Morgan that as 1 they had agreed to make the installation for .4106.60 Council did not feel that it should be called upon to pay more. Councilman Lovell moved that Councilman Meddin be elected Chairman of Council, Councilman Hosti seconded and the motion pass- ed. Dutton, Mayor Ex- Officio Member Alexander Meddin, Chairman of Council Councilman Peters moved that the following resolution Councilman Lovell seconded and the motion passed. by the 229 be adopt- A RESOLUTION WHEREAS, Alexander meddin was duly elected Chairman of Council Mayor and Councilmen of Savannah Beach; BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED, by the mayor and Councilmen of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island that Alexander Meddin be and he is hereby authorized to sign checks for the Town of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, on its accounts located at the Savannah Bank & Trust Company, Savannah, Georgia. BE IT FURTHER, RESOLVED, that the Savannah Bank & Trust Company and —the Citizens Bank- an & Trust Company be directed to sub- stitute the name of Alexander p,meddin in lieu of the name William S. Lovell on the signature cards of the accounts of the Town of Savan- nah Beach, Tybee Island and they, Savannah ?Rank & Trust Company of Savannah and the Citizens Bank & Trust Company are hereby authorized to accept the signature of Alexander Meddin in the premises. The meeting was postponed to Monday July 25th at 8 P. M.
