GREENCASTLE BOARD OF WORKS
EXECUTIVE SESSION
WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 15,1997 3:30 P.M. STREET DEPARTMENT
The Greencastle Board of Works met in Executive Session, Wednesday, October 15, 1997, 3:30
p.m. at the City Street Department. Mayor Michael called the meeting to order. On the roll call,
the following were found to be present: Sue Murray and George Murphey.
The purpose of this meeting was to discuss fire department personnel. Assistant Chief Bill
Newgent told the Board that on October 10, 1997, three firefighters and a reserve officer took a
City owned vehicle to Lafayette for a fire school. Around 1:00 a.m. Assistant Chief Newgent
received a call notifying him that all four tires on the vehicle had been slashed while in the
parking lot of an Adult Entertainment establishment the firemen were at. Assistant Chief
Newgent stated that the tires either had to be fixed or replaced. The tires were replaced, but
with tires that were inconsistent with the tires that were originally on the vehicle. Fire Chief
O'Hair stated that he was notified today that the vandalism insurance of the establishment was
going to pay for the tires, but he wants tires consistent with the tires that were on the vehicle at
the time of the vandalism. Fire Chief O'Hair made the recommendation that the four firemen
pay for the tires to be replaced with tires consistent with the original tires and receive a written
reprimand to be placed in their personnel file. Mayor Michael made the motion to accept the
recommendation from Chief O'Hair. Motion was seconded by Sue Murray. Vote was
unanimous.
Being no further business, Sue Murray made the motion to adjourn, seconded by George
Murphey. Vote was unanimous.
