HomeMy Public PortalAbout2005-043 (03-15-05)RESOLUTION NO. 2005. 043 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD CONTINUING THE "CITY OF LYNWOOD BEAUTIFICATION PROGRAM" AND AUTHORIZE CITY MANAGER OR DESIGNEE TO APPROPRIATE AND TRANSFER NECESSARY FUNDS FOR THE PROGRAM WHEREAS, the City of Lynwood and the Lynwood Unified School District have collaborated their efforts to continue the "City of Lynwood Beautification Program" wherein student volunteers clean alleys in the City of Lynwood; and WHEREAS, it has been determined that alleys are the primary problematic areas where illegal dumping, abandoned vehicles, graffiti, weeds, and trash accumulate; and WHEREAS, the Lynwood High School and Middle School Students have already volunteered their time to clean Lynwood alleys on September 18, 2004 and December 18, 2004 and wish to volunteer their time to clean Lynwood alleys on two additional Saturdays March 19, 2005 and June 4, 2005; and WHEREAS, all participating youth will undergo safety training including safety rules and regulations: and WHEREAS, the Lynwood Unified School District has agreed to provide 1) supervisory staff, 2) liability insurance for youths, 3) transportation for youths to and from the cleanup sites, 4) boxed lunch, and 5) sufficient drinking water; and WHEREAS; the City of Lynwood has agreed to provide 1) staffto pick up heavy debris prior to the arrival of students at the sites on each designated date, 2) assistance with supervision of youth, 3) portable toilets in each location as required by law, and 4) removal and transporting trash bags to the Public Works Yard after cleanups; and WHEREAS, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department has agreed to provide security with deputy patrols in areas where youth are cleaning on designated dates; and WHEREAS, the City of Lynwood Beautification Program is an outstanding collaborative effort between the City of Lynwood and the Lynwood Unified School District to engage youth to help keep Lynwood Clean and Beautiful. ' .... ' ~ NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Lynwood does hereby find, proclaim, order and resolve as follows: SECTION 1. That the City Council approve to continue the "City of Lynwood Beautification Program." SECTION 2. That the City Manager or Designee is authorized to provide funding per the following: FROM TO AMOUNT Unappropriated Account # $24,200.00 General Fund 01-4130 SECTION 3.
