HomeMy Public PortalAbout20150318_DAMSBODminutes.pdf TIDA/MS BOD approved: 4/15/15 Page 1 of 2 TYBEE ISLAND DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY / MAIN STREET BOARD OF DIRECTORS Meeting Minutes: March 18, 2015 Vision: To improve the quality of life for those that live, work, and visit Tybee Island and enhance the cultural experience while preserving the community's barrier island heritage. The Mission of the Tybee Island Development Authority / Main Street Program is to: - facilitate efforts to revitalize, redevelop, and enhance that which improves the quality of life; - create a sense of place and improve the quality of life for residents, business owners, and visitors using the Main Street Four Point Approach; - encourage quality economic growth and development while preserving Tybee Island's unique architectural and community heritage; - support and encourage the arts as a cultural endeavor and economic engine on the Island. ATTENDANCE (Present) Director: Angela Caldwell, Bill Garbett, Vicki Hammons, Brenda Marion Staff: Chantel Morton (Absent) Director: Deana Harden, Steve Kellam, Ted Lynch Ex-Officio Director: Melissa Memory, John Yarbrough CALL TO ORDER Vicki called the meeting to order at 6:20pm. DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY / MAIN STREET BOARD OF DIRECTORS MINUTES Motion was made by Brenda, which was seconded by Bill, to approve the minutes of the Tybee Island Development Authority / Main Street Board of Directors February 18, 2015 meeting. Motion carried. ORGANIZATION 2015 Program Work Plan of Action Directors reviewed the updates to the work plan for 2015 they received via email prior to the meeting. Motion was made by Brenda, which was seconded by Angela, to approve the presented Development Authority / Main Street 2015-2016 Work Plan of Action. Directors discussed the need for additional holiday lighting, especially for the Lights on for Tybee Celebration. The Promotions and Design Committee will review. Motion carried. Budget Review Directors discussed the current fiscal year Main Street operating budget. Chantel will confirm when the meetings to review the program budget with the city manager and City Council budget workshops will be when she has the information. DDA Training Chantel confirmed Brenda is registered for the Development Training in Atlanta in July. Ted and Steve still need to confirm which training session they will attend to meet the training requirement prior to August. PROMOTIONS COMMITTEE Movies in the Park Directors reviewed the movie options Brenda presented for the June, July and August Movies in the Park series. Brenda made a motion, which was seconded by Angela, to show The Lego Movie in June, Big Hero 6 in July, and Earth to Echo in August. Motion carried. Brenda is communicating with Diane Kaufman regarding a possible sponsorship from TIARA. The sponsorship would cover the costs for all A/V needs and possibly the movie itself. She will provide an update at the next board meeting. TIDA/MS BOD approved: 4/15/15 Page 2 of 2 Tybee Community Day Chantel and Vicki reviewed the past discussions and vote by the board for the date of Tybee Community Day this year. The Tybee Arts Association has decided to not use Memorial Park on Sunday, September 27 as originally planned, which is one reason Directors had chosen to host Community Day in November. Brenda made a motion, which was seconded by Bill, that the Tybee Island Development Authority / Main Street Board of Directors host Tybee Community Day on Sunday, September 27 instead of in November. Motion passed. She confirmed the Promotions Committee will work on the details with the board’s assistance. BUSINESS ASSISTANCE COMMITTEE The Merchant Meet-Up meeting to review the Locals Appreciation Card and additional opportunities for “Buy Local Tybee” awareness is planned for April 29 at 9am. Chantel will send an invite out and Directors will personally invite those that are honoring the card. OTHER BUSINESS / NEWS Vicki reported that Melissa and she met with Chantel to review concerns about Tybee Island Tourism Council / Visit Tybee not allocating H/M tax funding they receive for local advertising assistance. She and Chantel are meeting with their organization’s director on March 23 to review in detail. Brenda reported that the Tybee Tour of Homes on May 2 is benefiting the Tybee Island Maritime Academy. Directors discussed the Design Committee pursuing a Public Mural Project for the blank wall on Tybrisa Street. Angela suggested SCAD and / or other institutions with a focus on art be contacted once the committee has guidelines. ADJOURN The meeting adjourned at 6:55pm.
