TYBEE ISLAND DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY / MAIN STREET BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Meeting Minutes: October 21, 2015
Vision: To improve the quality of life for those that live, work, and visit Tybee Island and enhance the cultural experience while preserving
the community's barrier island heritage.
The Mission of the Tybee Island Development Authority / Main Street Program is to:
- facilitate efforts to revitalize, redevelop, and enhance that which improves the quality of life;
- create a sense of place and improve the quality of life for residents, business owners, and visitors using the Main Street Four Point
Approach;
- encourage quality economic growth and development while preserving Tybee Island's unique architectural and community heritage;
- support and encourage the arts as a cultural endeavor and economic engine on the Island.

CALL TO ORDER
Ted called the meeting to order at 6:07pm. Chantel confirmed that the Mayor and City Council will
consider appointing Diane Kaufman, Owner of Mermaid Cottages, to serve on the Development
Authority/Main Street Board of Directors at the October 22 City Council meeting.
DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY / MAIN STREET BOARD OF DIRECTORS MINUTES
Motion was made by Bill, which was seconded by Brenda, to approve the minutes of the Tybee Island
Development Authority / Main Street Board of Directors September 16, 2015 meeting. Motion carried.
ORGANIZATION
Local Advertising Assistance Plan
Vicki reviewed the local advertising assistance letter prepared to be submitted to the Mayor and City
Council with Directors. She explained that letter has detailed information and a proposed plan that
includes: the City updating the 2006 Memo of Agreement with the Savannah Chamber, authorizing the
City’s Development Authority / Main Street Board (serving as a central hub)to provide oversight by
making recommendations for spending the hotel / motel tax they receive on local, consistent, year-round
advertising. She explained that the proposed plan can better serve local organizations, benefit residents,
visitors and the local economy. Directors discussed the letter, the distribution of hotel / motel tax to
Savannah Chamber and Hutchinson Island, and various opportunities depending on how the Mayor and
City Council wish to proceed. Motion was made by Brenda, which was seconded by Ted, to accept the
letter and proceed to have Chantel send the letter to the Clerk of Council for review by the Mayor and
City Council. Motion carried.

BUSINESS ASSISTANCE COMMITTEE
Locals Appreciation Card
Chantel reported that since the last Board meeting, seven residents have obtained new Locals
Appreciation Cards and three residents have renewed their cards. Ted reviewed possible changes to the
Locals Appreciation Card process as discussed at previous committee meetings and board meetings.
Motion was made by Ted, which was seconded by Brenda, to not make changes to the current
requirements of obtaining the Locals Appreciation Card and how it is administered. Motion carried.
Merchant Meetup: November 10
Ted confirmed the Merchant Meetup is scheduled for November 10 from 9am until 10:30am at the Guard
House. Chantel has sent a Save the Date email to merchants and will be sending an e-announcement
soon. The focus of the meetup is on employee recruitment, retention, and resources.
Business News
Vicki reported that Lighthouse Pizza – North will be having a dough-raiser to raise money for the Tybee
Island Maritime Academy on October 28. Melissa reported that local bands will be playing at the Tybee
Post Theater this weekend.
DESIGN COMMITTEE
Next Committee Meeting: Public Mural Project
Vicki reported that there will be a Design Committee meeting on November 5 to discuss the Public Mural
Project for the wall on Tybrisa. The goal is to have a proposal presented at the next board meeting.
PROMOTIONS COMMITTEE
Recap Tybee Community Day 2015
Brenda reported that Tybee Community Day was fabulous. She and directors that attended estimate at
least 300 people participated throughout the day. Directors discussed having a donation jar for next year
for money to go towards the following year’s event. Chantel confirmed this would help with games and
other provisions that day.
Updates for Tybee for the Holidays: November 26 – January 1
Chantel confirmed she is placing local ads and has already reserved the billboard on President Street. She
showed Directors the ad that will be running in Savannah Magazine. Brenda confirmed TIMA students are
making ornaments to decorate the Christmas tree on Community Decorating Day. She also announced
that Sara and Kurtis are planning to have a Christmas Tree farm at Bo Bien Hut the Saturday after
Thanksgiving.
OTHER BUSINESS
Directors discussed other promotional opportunities to replace Third Thursdays on Tybee in 2016. Brenda
and Chantel will research ideas from other communities. Brenda will provide an update at the next Board
of Directors meeting.
