COMMITTEE REVIEWS
Economic Restructuring
Ribbon Cuttings: Chantel reported that the ribbon cutting ceremonies for businesses opening
have been going well. The Mayor and City Council have been very supportive and participate,
as available, to welcome businesses to Tybee. It is also important that we recognize those
businesses that have milestone anniversaries as we continue with these efforts. Chantel will
have this on the agenda for the next Economic Restructuring Committee meeting. Directors
will brainstorm as well.
Organization
Budget Updates: Chantel reported the 2012 4th Quarter Advertising Assistance applications
she submitted to the Tybee Island Tourism Council were approved. The first application was
for Third Thursdays on Tybee and TITC will provide assistance for $2,000. The second
application for Lights on for Tybee and the Christmas Parade (under the umbrella of Tybee for
the Holidays) was approved at $4,000 in advertising assistance. Chantel will send the Tourism
Council a hand written thank you note expressing appreciation of their support on behalf of
the Directors.
Promotions
Third Thursdays on Tybee: Chantel reminded Directors of the fall series line up for Third
Thursdays on Tybee. Chantel reported that Jan Spillane expressed dismay that the honorarium
is $25 less than when she performed two years ago. Chantel explained that the BHT Program
was able to begin these event two years ago due to being a recipient of a Georgia Council for
the Arts grant. The concerts have continued due to public desire and support for them comes
through the BHT budget and sponsorships. John offered to provide a token of appreciation
from Spanky’s. Chantel will meet with John prior to Jan’s September performance.
Lights on for Tybee / Tybee Island Christmas Parade: Chantel reported that Stephen has been
looking for a stage for the dancers during Lights on for Tybee. He is having difficulty securing a
stage due to budget constraints, but is continuing the search. John stated that as a last resort
he may need to inquire about a flat bed truck through his contacts at Coke. The next
Promotions Committee meeting is September 29.

TYBEE COMMUNITY DAY (OCTOBER 21: 12P – 5P; RAIN DATE OCTOBER 28)
Review summary, details and site plan
Directors reviewed the plans and provided updates for Tybee Community Day. Jim reported
that he did speak with Tom Groover regarding Irish Road Bowling. Tom wants the bowling to
take place at 18th and Chatham. Diane suggested that this aspect of Community Day be a
demonstration so that it remains close to Memorial Park. Chantel will talk with Tom. Monty
reported that he has the rope for tug-o-war and is researching loops / anchors. He will have
pudding for the defeated teams to fall in to. When he speaks at the City Council meeting he
will pose a challenge to include the Mayor and City Council, as well as the Planning
Commission. The other children and adult games are on track.
Chantel reported that while speaking with Denise about the flyer, Denise suggested having a
community art project that day. She will assist with this aspect of Community Day. Chantel
unveiled three flyer options that Bruce designed. Directors agreed that the design with one
palm tree and the “Back to No’r’mal” marquee picture be used with a few font modifications
for better readability. Chantel will review with Bruce and send a final to the Directors. Monty
agreed to distribute the flyers to key areas.
Discussion ensued regarding publicity. Chantel emphasized that in accordance with the
program’s vision and mission statements, the program is for residents and visitors and neither
should feel alienated. An excerpt from Monty regarding Community Day will be in the
September and October Better Hometown Tybee Breeze articles. Diane suggested a black and
white version of the flyer be included in the water bill mailings. Directors agreed and thanked
Diane for the opportunity.
Chantel reported that Amy is continuing to contact local organizations regarding participation.
Vickie confirmed the Arts Association is participating. She will inquire with the members
regarding a craft project for the nursing home residents that attend. Diane suggested Waste
Pro, Comcast and Georgia Power participate. All agreed. She will work with her assistant to
contact them.
John is ready for grilling.
Monty confirmed the lineup of musicians is coming together nicely.
OTHER BUSINESS
Jim discussed his concern with delivery trucks at the Tybrisa / Strand Roundabout. He has seen
delivery trucks parking in non loading zone areas during peak (pedestrian) times during the week and
some of the trucks produce a lot of noise. John explained that deliveries are typically made mid
morning / day because of route scheduling. He confirmed that he makes every effort to have drivers
park in loading zones when available and the drivers are as efficient as possible. John believes other
merchants have similar practices.
ADJOURN
The meeting adjourned at 7:15pm.
