The minutes were approved unanimously. COMMITTEE REVIEWS Design Chantel updated the Directors that the Butler Avenue Sidewalk Improvement Project along between 14th Street and Tybrisa Street will begin January 2. She has been to each business in the impacted area with a site plan of the project and an invitation to the January 2 informational meeting with the contractor and the city. A majority of the merchants are looking forward to the finished project. Directors discussed professional signage to be posted during construction. Ted made a motion that Chantel pursue obtaining signage stating “Improvements taking place. Please pardon our progress.” and to use her discretion with the costs. Amy seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. Amy suggested contacting Speedi Sign. Chantel confirmed she will contact three print companies and proceed. Chantel reported that a few merchants attended one and / or two of the December 4 informational meetings regarding the changes to the compactors for 100% single stream recycling Downtown. The City Manager requested they fill out a ballot to check if their preference was for the recycling to be at Atlantic or Lovell. Attendees had different preferences based on their location and overhead. Bill reiterated that one of the advantages of this recycling program is that merchants will see a rebate in the future the more they recycle versus use the trash compactor. Katie inquired about the January 2 date for implementation. Chantel has requested the City Manager send a letter to the merchants with an update as soon as possible because the original implementation will not be starting January 2. Chantel will provide updates as she receives them. Economic Restructuring Chantel and Ted reviewed possible meetings for the business regarding taxes, business resources and police security meetings. Meetings similar to these occurred within the last two years. They will meet to discuss a possible date in February. Organization The Better Hometown Board of Directors announcement of available 2013 – 2015 term seats has been posted online and on the bulletin board in the lobby of City Hall. Chantel distributed the 2013 BHT meeting calendar to the Directors. Approved: 1/16/13 Page 2 of 2 At the last Tybee Island Tourism Council Board meeting Chantel attended the ad assistance requests for 2013 were discussed within their budget. She reported to Directors that the ad assistance request of $4,000 for Tybee for the Holidays (Lights on for Tybee and the Christmas Parade) was granted by the Tourism Council. The Tourism Council approved $500 out of the $4,000 ad assistance requested for the 2013 spring and fall series of Third Thursdays on Tybee. The $500 they allocated is for posters and / or flyers. Therefore, sponsorship possibilities will need to be revisited by the Board and Promotions Committee. Promotions Directors discussed sponsorships for the spring and fall series of Third Thursdays on Tybee. Amy inquired about what sponsors will receive. She suggested logo inclusion on a banner posted at the event. Chantel referenced the sponsorship package she put together a year ago for Savannah Bank and Coke. The levels were $600 and $800. Discussion ensued about revising the packages to $500 and $1,000. Monty will talk with Josh at the Rockhouse. Ted will talk with Mike at Wet Willies and Tim at Tim’s Bikes. Other potential sponsors mentioned were Fannies on the Beach, Huc-a-Poos and vacation rental companies. Chantel confirmed the submission announcement is going out this week. The judging will take place mid February. The spring series begins in March. Amy inquired about reaching out to other Mainstreet / Better Hometown Managers for new artists for 2013 submissions. She also recommended contacting the Savannah Music Festival. Directors commented about having vendors, such as local artists, at the concerts for additional draw. Chantel will put these items on the Promotions Committee agenda and report at the next Board meeting. Monty thanked everyone that assisted with Lights on for Tybee and the Christmas Parade during Tybee for the Holidays. The next promotions meeting will be January 9 so that the month of activities will be fresh on everyone’s mind and can be reviewed, as well as, various discussions / ideas for 2013 planning. OTHER BUSINESS N/A ADJOURN The meeting adjourned at 7:15pm.
