COMMITTEE REVIEWS
Design
Chantel reported that the Butler Avenue Sidewalk Improvement Project along between
14th Street and Tybrisa Street began January 2. The project is moving along smoothly. She has
been posting progress pictures on the Better Hometown Facebook page.
Chantel reported that she has not received an update regarding when recycling at the
Atlantic compactor will be implemented. She has sent two emails and has suggested the
businesses be updated as soon as possible.
Economic Restructuring
Chantel reported that she is working on potential financing projects with Georgia
Department of Community Affairs and Georgia Cities Foundation. The two targeted projects
are the Post Theater and the Carbo House. She has met with a representative from GCF and
will report updates to the board as they occur.
Ted and Chantel are going to meet soon to finalize a meeting for the businesses to review
tax changes and financing options.
Organization
Chantel reminded Directors that applications for the 2013 – 15 Better Hometown Board of
Directors available positions are being accepted until February 6.
Promotions
Amy provided an overview of items discussed at the January 9, 2013 Promotions
Committee meeting (attached). Amy made a motion to have Lights on for Tybee Friday,
December 6 and the Christmas Parade Saturday, December 7. John seconded the motion. The
motion passed unanimously. Discussion ensued regarding the placement of the Christmas
tree. Directors agreed the Tybrisa / Strand Roundabout is the best location. All agreed
children are a main focus for the weekend of celebration. Chantel has confirmed December 6
with Gretchen Greene School of Dance. Their director confirmed a 16’ wide stage will suffice
for their performance.
Directors reviewed the 2013 Third Thursdays on Tybee sponsorship Chantel presented
based on the levels of $500 and $1,000 as directed at the last meeting. John suggested $150

be a level for more participation. Discussion ensued regarding speaking with the restaurants
which serve as the rain locations first and other possible sponsors. Monty offered to speak
with the owner of The Rock House. Directors suggested Chantel pursue sponsorships. Chantel
will revise the sponsorship package and send to Directors for input. Directors discussed having
a banner hang at the performance location with logos of that month’s sponsoring businesses.
John will send Chantel information for these types of banners. Bill inquired about businesses
participation to date. Chantel confirmed $2,000 in advertising assistance was awarded from
the Tybee Island Tourism Council for help during the fall series last year. During that series,
she did secure participation from a few businesses that highlighted specials they had and / or
staying open during the performance times. These items were posted on the Third Thursdays
on Tybee Facebook page and promoted in a general way with the radio advertisement. She
commented that with assistance for more promotion may draw more people and in turn more
business participation.
