DIRECTORS PRESENT: Angela Caldwell, Bill Garbett, Jim Glass, Vicki Hammons, Steve Kellam, Brenda Marion, Kelly Partridge DIRECTORS ABSENT: Ted Lynch, Melissa Memory, Peggy Stone, John Yarbrough CALL TO ORDER Directors confirmed that Chantel will lead the meeting In Ted’s absence. Chantel called the meeting to order at 6:05pm. WELCOME NEWLY APPOINTED DIRECTORS Chantel welcomed Angela Caldwell with Caldwell’s Cottage Monogramming and Steve Kellam with Tybee Time Daiquiri and Sports Bar as newly appointed Main Street Directors. Angela and Steve introduced themselves and their interest in the Main Street Program. MAIN STREET BOARD OF DIRECTORS MINUTES: FEBRUARY 19, 2014 Jim made a motion to approve the February 19, 2014 Main Street Board of Directors minutes. Brenda seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. BUDGET UPDATE Chantel reported that the Main Street operating budget has been submitted to the City Manager for the City Council budgeting process review. Upon request from the manager, she kept the budget the same. However, she was asked to include trash containers and rope lighting. She requested that she supply the pricing and supplier information to public works so that they could order them and she could focus on Main Street specific items such as ribbon cuttings, preservation efforts (design guidelines, HPC duties), events, etc. The City Manager confirmed and the line item that will be used will be the South Beach Business District. Public Works is getting her the electrical quote for the rope lighting along Butler to provide to finance for the budget. ANNUAL WORKSHOP FOR 2014-15 WORK PLAN Directors discussed possible dates and times in May for the Board Retreat. Directors decided Saturday, May 3 from 9am until 1pm will be best. Chantel will confirm with the facilitator, Jessica Reynolds at Department of Community Affairs, and send a reminder email to directors with meeting location. TYBEE COMMUNITY DAY (OCTOBER 19, 2014 1 – 5pm) Directors confirmed that the gym will be the backup location for Community Day on October 19 if it rains. MAY – NATIONAL PRESERVATION MONTH Chantel reported that the theme for this year’s National Preservation Month in May is “Embark. Inspire. Engage.” Brenda reviewed the Historic Savannah Foundation – Savannah Preservation Festival information that was emailed to Directors. Chantel encouraged everyone to, at least, attend Donavon Rypkema’s presentation. Directors will send Chantel information related to Tybee history for her to post Approved: 4/23/14 Page 2 of 2 on the Main Street FB page everyday of May. She is working on a direct mail brochure for the Historic Preservation Commission regarding historic districts. DESIGN COMMITTEE UPDATE Vicki reported that the Design Committee is going to work on the design guidelines specific to the corridor in order to have a reference to award applications for the Façade Improvement Grant. Chantel confirmed she is posting the grant information on the Main Street website. PROMOTIONS COMMITTEE UPDATE Brenda reviewed the list of PG / G movies available by SWANK for the June, July and August Movies in the Park. She will email the list to Chantel for distributing to Directors for selection at the next board meeting. Directors discussed the flyer that will be produced once the movies are selected. Directors discussed the logistics of having the Christmas Parade and Lights on for Tybee Saturday, December 6 instead of over a two day span. Weather conditions and visits with Santa before the parade and then again at the tree lighting were top concerns. Vicki made a motion to proceed with applying for Lights on for Tybee Friday, December 5 and the Christmas Parade on December 6 as has been done successfully in the past few years. Kelly seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. OTHER BUSINESS Directors discussed a new business that will be opening in the old location of Jitterbug. Chantel confirmed that the new business owners are Sarah and Curtis with Tybee Social Club. She will work with them on planning a ribbon cutting. NEWS FROM DIRECTORS Brenda announced that 150 kids are enrolled in the Tybee Maritime School. They are planning to add mobile classrooms. 180 students have applied for this coming school year. Next year, fifth grade will be added. They are going to ensure that TIMA remains a small community school. ADJOURN The meeting adjourned at 7:15pm.
