The regular meeting of Town Council was held today at 4 p. M.
and was attended by Mayor Dutton, who presided, Councilmen Peters,
Meddin,Hosti, Smith, Lovell, Town Attorney Solms, Jr., Mrs. Julia
Hamlet, Mr. Rouse and Mr. Beattie.
Mrs. Hamlet protested against the 1950 assessment placed on
her property, contending that it wav too high, the matter was referred
to the Assessment Committee. Mrs. Hamlet was excused.
Mr. Rouse of the Dual Parking Meter Company in charge of the
installation of the parking meters reported that all of the meters
had been installed and were ready for use, he stated thet to service
them properly would take the full time of one man as they must be
kept in good condition, this man should be a trouble- shooter, that to
police the meters to check violations a policeman is needed, that at
least two men are needed to properly handle the job, he was aeked
how long it would take to bob them, Mr. Rouse stated that it would
take about four hours. Mr. Rouse was excused.
The minutes of the meeting of April 20th were read and adopted.
A petition was presented by a group of Town Employees petition-
ing for a 20 % increase in salaries retroactive to May 1, 1950,
Councilman Meddin moved that the petition be referred to the Finance
Committee, Councilman Peters seconded and the motion passed.
Mr. Fred Garis requested that the license fee on minature
pool tables be reduced, Councilman Meddin moved that the license fee
for minature pool tables be $15.00 for each table. Councilman Peters
seconded and the motion passed.
Councilman Peters moved that in connection with Mr. Lanes re-
quest for a reduction in the cost of some of the license fees to
operate his rides and etc., that the Kiddy Rides.be reduced to $25.00
each, and that the`fee on'the large rides remain at $50.00 per ride,
and the shooting gallery remain at $50.00, Councilman Smith second-
ed and the motion passed.
Councilman Meddin moved that O'Brien & Spillane be authorized
to audit the Town books for the year May 1, 1949 to April 30, 1950,
Councilman Smith seconded and the motion passed.

A protest was filed by Mr. Abe Rabhan contending that he has
been charged taxes on improvements being constructed on his Lot,
Section 7 of 102, Wardi5, stating that, the building had not been
completed, Councilman I eddin moved that the charge for the improve -
ments for a first half of the year be rebated. Councilman Smith
seconded an the motion passed.
A petition was read from the Ideal Gas Company protesting
against the11950 lioenSe assessment against them, Councilman Peters
moved that the petitioa be denied, Councilman Hosti seconded and the
motion passd.
A petition was read from the Sea -View Development Company stat-
ing that as they had Old several of their buildings from the Hotel
Tybee Tract that the assessment should be reduced accordingly, it was
decided that as the property was in their name at the time that the
tax notices', were made and that the deeds were not recorded in the
Clerks office prior to the time that the change could not be made
until the deeds were recorded.
Mr. Reed was asked if the DDT sprayer was in operation, and he
stated that it was, heialso stated that he needs some fire hose to jet
some of the piling down on which to place some of the steps at the board.
walks, Councilman Smith stated that at the present time there was only
one piece of fire equipment in use and that if the hose was off of the
fire engine it would not be of service in case a fire started on the
Island, he stated that Fire Chief Solomon did not want the hose re-
moved from the fire engine. Councilman Smith stated that a hose
coupler could be purchased for $40.00 to repair the Town's hose,
also that the Savannah Fire Department might repair the Town's fire
engine, Mr. Reed stated that the life guard towers were being put up
now, at the present time the Town has five towers, the Mayor asked
Mr. Reed to let him know the cheapest way to repair 6th Street. Mr.
Deed stated that the .unsanitary condition existing in the business
places caused by the lack of proper garbage cans and etc., should be
corrected, he also stated that a party from the National Park Service
were removing the bronze plaque erected in memory of Lt. Morgan, from
its location in Ft. Scriiven, the Mayor said let them have it, he also
wanted to know what had been done relative to street repairs on Shir-
ley Road.
Councilman Meddip stated'that.he had handled with Joseph S.
Espy the matter of having the Town employees bonded and moved that
it be done, Councilman Smith seconded and the motion passed.
Councilman Meddi�hi moved that bills for the month of April
amounting tb $2944.90 be paid, Councilman Hosti seconded and the
motion passed.
Mr. Nprris T. pindar protested against the assessment placed on
property oa Lot D -3 of Lots 35 -42, Ward 2. The matter was referred to
to the Assessment Committee.
