I I hear that business was down for stores, restaurants ok.
2 Party noise should NOT be allowed ALL night long at any time of the year. Some of us have to live and work here. Garbage cans are left filled for days thenli
never pulled in., Rental companies need to monitorthisbetter.
3 see my comments below about parking
4 the tourists left a mess on the beach, beach sweep helped
5 if trash was emptied we would not have so much debris on ground. Most came from wind blowing trash out of overflowing cans.
6 Just too many cars
7 resident - didn't affect me.
8 Restrooms are atrocious but that is because the citizens that use the restrooms are trashing the restrroms faster than staff can clean up. Charge for the
restrooms and folks will be a bit more respectful.
9 Lots of drunk drivers parking in my neighborhood..tons of empty beer bottles and cans left outside my propertyline
10 this part of the survey is not clear depending on the way you look at it
11 July 3rd fireworks have become too dangerous. Too many visitors driving too fast, drinking too much, and shooting off too many fireworks in their nuisance
rental units.
12 Lots of complaints about public drunkeness, not family friendly, fear of taking children onTybrisa St
13 Too many cars allowed to park at 103 Butler Ave. Public urination on both 7/3-4 and Memorial Day.
14 conditionsmeetesp on parking -it is volume we can _-not - control - - -
15 It never ceases to amaze me how visitors to the Island think it is OK to us the beach and parking area as an ashtray n of to mention the garbage they leave
-behin-cl. How hard is it to use a soda/beer -can -for -they --butts and bag their trash.
16 debris situation is appalling. Many of the city trash receptacles were over -flowing. If we expect people to contain their trash/dispose of it properly, the City
has a responsibility to make sure trash receptables are placed in convenient locations and are emptied on an as needed basis, which is more often than a
regular weekend.
17 there were lots of folks speeding in the neighborhoods, running stop signs after the event.
IS I don't really know about the restrooms. The public safety issues that bother me is visitors blocking fire hydrant access.
19 Didn't use restrooms. Thought trash was horrendous, but picked up quickly by Wastepro. Parking was a nightmare for visitors. Parking all over the streets, in
yards, on the right of way. This is a problem that mustbesolved somehow. I'm for cloubleclecking the beach parking lots!
20 We need a parking deck
21 parking in resident yard should -not -have been allowed.incompetent leadership
22 Didn't use public restrooms, need to use Mem Park 4 parking
23 does question -4 - apply to my business or Tybee parking in general, will assume -itis for tybee
24 lack of city officials being available for the weekend
25 Don't know about the ones I did not check
26
more bathrooms needed on the north end business district.Police presence is a must on Hwy 80 by Sundance Sq, never see a cop, speeders are everywhere!
27
quality of life that weekend did not meet my expectations. Too much concern for businesses and out of town visitors, not enough concern for residents,
28 By "met", I mean too many cars, too much trash, too many people, etc.

1 Extra business on the 4th because of day tripers
2
thatwayme andmy family can also go to the one downtown
3 Depends on what day the holiday is, though. I'm part-time resident and need to travel back the next day.
4 Because that is the day of independence
5 That way we can go to Savannah's also. ---- --- -
6 No fireworks
I does not compete with downtown
8 go to others on the 4th
9 don't have a preference
10 don't compete, with Sav'h, kids can sta-y, up late and no work next day -beach sweep
-11 hi- - __
Perhaps it would keep more people from town in Savanna Instead of on tybee - will need to make this decision far in advance to notify those who pre -reserve every year if date is
ch a nged
12 Traffic Con gestOn
13 Less traffic as Savannah is also havirw theirs on the 4th
— - --------- ------ -
14 Don't really care as we were here for the whole week.
25 Allows the ability to view Tybee fire works then Savannah fire works the next day for twice the fun.
16 independence Day!
17 Then there would be less people on Tybee because some would be attending the fireworks downtown.
18 Also can see Savannah's display—
-----
19 Less impart and costs for the CAy
20 We no longer need to womy about competjjrof"
with the fireworks in town. We can not accomadate all of the people.
21 less people, less traffic, less trash, less trouble
22 Having it the same time as Savannah would make less traffic
23 Can also: to river street
- --------- - ---- -
24 Cut down on teh overcrowding
2S more people can see them before they have to go home for work on the 5th
26 You can catch both Tybp_, and savannah on successive nights. From City of Tybee,, hold on same night and ynu might cut the crowds n - -----
27 Don't like to compete with Savannah
28 Because the 4th is spent driving home.
29 Cut down on crowds
30 Too many pe.npie - too any problems
31 Brings biggest crowd for the businesses & avoids conflicting with Say.
32 30,000 peope ... come — -----
33 it would help control the crowds. 1-ybee canot handle the amount of folks we experienceld_this y(nr and it was a cluster f^ %* U
34 Make people choose: Savannah or Tybee on the 4th, cutting the crowd down by about half
35 People can enjoy Tybee & Savannah festivities
36 it would thin the crowd
37 No fireworks, you don't have the parking to support the event
38 Neither. Too many people. Too much debris, etc
39 If the fireworks are held on the 4th, the crowds might not be so huge at Tybee.
40 because savannah has fireworks on July 4th
ZEMZMER•a
42 Pretty stupid to have it on the 3rd.
43 Love having them the third - I can enjoy two days of celebrations
44 The prevailing wisdom is we onot want to compete with Savannah's celebration, but we just can't han&e 30,000 visitors.
45 many of us have to go to work on July 5th. The 3rd also doesn't compe te with Savannah's fireworks.
46 i prefer the to be on the same night as savannah to help limit the crowds.
47 whatever day savannah does not have theirs
48 Fewer people. You can't (should not try to) put 20 people in a boat ment for four and have a good outcome.
49 Savannah which I went in to see is on the 4th. 2 nights of fireworks better
So We had to be at work on the 5th and couldn't stay overnight on the 4th Parking is always very difficult if you're only coming for the fireworks, so we liked staying Sunday night and
still getting to see them.
S1 Share the celebration w/ Savannah might cut down on traffic
S2 to many people here when they are on the third and the traffic is ridulous. people get crazy when they sit in traffic for hours. have a nice week end and have it on the 4th like it's
suppose to be.
53 It shold r^. us you live at Tybee. This is our island home. We are the City of Tybee Island; not the Town of Savannah Beach!
54 Mavbe if we have our fireworks the same evenine as Savannah and other locals it will reduce thetuiriber of cars coytr4e to Tvbee.
M111111111111111111
56 bring the tourists for an additional day
57 either
58 helps businesses
59 depends on what day the actual holiday falls on
60 Tradition, Allows for celebration on Tybee and in Savannah
61 Prefer to have it a day earlier than anyone else in the area
62 Like the option to see Savannah's on the 4th
63 more people by not competing with River st
64 Didn't know of 7/4 event. Give 7/3 a B minus rating.
65 businesses do better on 2 days of celebration
66 doesn't conflict with Savannah's fireworks
67 Unique; workable; better for businesses; on 4th - would be just another show.
68 would lower amount of people who visit just for fireworks, were way too many and traffic and safety are an issue for me
69 Tybee gets a greater attendance on the 3rd
70 Because of traffic
71 It's the actual holiday, would possibly alleviate the congestion of traffic/crowding/garbage/complaints.
72 other options in town so perhaps less people would come to Tybee
73 helps the business owners
74 Because the next day is -a holiday; you can sleep in!
75 1 love a holiday celebration on THE holiday.
76 We need to limit the number of people who come on the island. having the fireworks on the 4th will help.
77 -
If we had t1he-fire -works on July 4th than we would have fewer locals (Savannah and outlyingarearesidents) coming out to our show because -6ey'd---—
have the option to attend
Savannah or Tybee's fireworks. This would lead to less parking, trash and restroom availability issues.
78 only one day of hell rather than two
79 it would be less crowded
80 the area day visitors should make a choice between savannah or tybee; this will help with the overcrowding and traffic if o . n same night at Savannah as visitors will have a choice
167m t r,Mal I a -am
81 Didnt conflict with Savannah
82 didn't -have -to workthenext day.
83 Should cut the number of crazy visitors and cut the amount of traffic
84 unique
85 expands the weekend for business
86
This has become so crowded that having it on July will force many to choose between Tybee and Savannah and will reduce the crowd enough to make it more pleasant to attend.
87 can dotwo then!
88 4th of JW,,z show would coincide with Savannah's and cut the crowd to a more reasonable size.
89 It would be too difficult to arrange (TBA) clean-up on a working day -
Less conflict with other celebrations
91 1 think if we had fireworks on Juiy 4 along with Savannah, we would not have such an enormous crowd.
92 Less impact on island since Savannah has theirs that day.
93 Might split the traffic with downtown and other close venues
94 Less impact on city's infrastructure.

I Parking, Parking, Parking.
2 Traffic control, pedestrian control and control of non -city sponsored fireworks was lacking.
3 Fireworks were great.
4 Hire more officers just for holiday weekends.
5 There needed to be more help getting all the people off the island. It was a bigger nightmare than it usually is on a holiday.
I believe that a lot of the parking and traffic issues could be relieved by changing the way we distribute parking stickers. Residents of the island could be assigned one color
each year and non resident, paid stickers another. Residents should always get first priority as we pay taxes to live here. I believe that a certain percentage of parking should
be reserved for residents of the island. I also think we should look into ways to turn people away once the parking lots are full. If I'm correct, the city monitors the parking lots
to see when they've reached capacity. I also think that making it more expensive to park on Tybee would cut down on the volume of people who come here. I understand that
merchants depend on tourists for income, but people that live here should be given, more -consideration. -Our daily lives should not be impacted so much by the tourists.
7 Fireworks on the 3rd are good -most people had to leave on Monday, those that did not helped clean up.
9 Need constant trash pickun, over we
seemed really bad this year in residential areas on South end. if pre -advertised fireworks could be moved to the 4th.
9 Police department did a great job.
10
I thought the fire works were amazing but what bothered me was there were additional fire works displays on the 4th as well and I missed it because it wasn't advertised.
11 Have been here for 20 years and the police never stop people from doing illegal fireworks on the public streets. Very dangerous. Remember the Fleetwood house that burnt
down?
12 Day trippers do not bring added revvenue to Tybe-e. They cost Tybee money becausii-th—ey bring all their items ov he bridge & leave their trash—f&r Fus tc61ean up. They do
not spend money in our stores, resturants or bars. There is NOT enough parking so they just ride around burning gas. I sat at 1701 Butler and watch cars riding around even
during fireworks because there was NO parking anywhere. Cars were everywhere! This harms the peace & enjoyment of Tybee citizens. I feel our local goverment does not
give a about the citizen who live here, pay taxes here, work here, play here.
13 Driving home from fireworks was a nightmare.
14 1 think they did their best under difficult conditions
15 Every year I wonder who is going to park in my yard or throw debris on the street. Lucky on both counts this year. Probably due to the media coverage.
11.6 It is dangerous to have 30,00 visitors on this small island.
17 1 think it went well and I am very proud of how diversified our beach visitors are.
is Beach patrol and the TIPD officers were very laid back. The foot guys from TIPD in the business district were everywhere and it was hot. All of the TIPD officers were a lot more
polished and a lot more professional than in years M. My family saw citations written with officers being very calm despite glass bottle holders screaming at them. We were
surprised more folks did not go to jail with the abuse the officers absorbed. My family felt safe and my family enjoyed the area around the pier. The older officers were gracious
and gave a lot of warnings about cans to folks. one of the officers was handing out cups rather than write up a person.
19 If I didn't live here and own a business, I wouldn't be here. But for those who came, I guess they got what they expected in parking problems.
20 The Tybee police did a wonderful job over the weekend! The beach patrol also! A huge weekend like Independence Day stresses the assets of any tourist destination, and Tybee
was ready and willing to help. Also, not just beach patrol staff, but the lifeguards!
21 We rode our bikes down, and as usual, people who don't know better SPEED down every side street on Tybee trying to beat the crowds off the island.. Wish we could have
police at the intersections of Butler and 2nd, Lovell, Jones, Miller, to allow a flow into the main line. That or block off all but Jones and Butler to outgoing traffic so they have to
drive to traffic liehts.
22 too many illegal fireworks - with dry conditions this could result in serious fires
23 1 know this is viewed by some-a—sa -pain but it helps the business community. I w uld likeito —see tlheillegal fiiewo—rks-sto-p—ped th ong—h as my —dog refuses to leave the house even

48 parking dec k at the old Post Office location..former medical office..would solve lot's of problems
49 - Ma y - or's letter and full-page parking map in Sav AM News was outstanding!
50 Instead of having a lobbyist push for a median on Buttler ave. between 14th and 16th street ait till next year w en t e me•an creates m re congestion in my opinion. T ey
need to have them push for a 4 lane bridges and highway.
51 20 minutes of Fireworks, but later 20 ish more shot off after show over - could have been used for to extend the show. Discuss with fireworks contractor.
r,pi..Puestion #2 ... I am both a resident and businessowner. I am
would have had to take a ambulance, getting off the island would be very difficult as well. Why are the center lanes not blocked off for emergency vehicles during event
weekends??
S3
I liked the idea of parking around Memorial park without meters as long as you paid to park. If you had a no drinking alcohol on the beach ordinance, you would do away with
the majority of the trash. Lights on bicycles at night. People walk and ride int eh middle of the road as though it is a sidewalk. Need to be single file.
54 People do need to be fined for leaving their trash on the beach. I picked up many cans and other people's trash that could have been put in to recycle as they were leaving. I
think this needs to be a priority over the fines for parking because there is obviously not enough parking to handle the crowd that was on Tybee for the fireworks. Fireworks
were great though and there were ample lifeguards on duty to assist people. Very friendly too. Parking is the main issue that needs a better plan to accomoclate locals and
visitors while on the island and not make them not want to come back.
55 if the metro police could keep the traffic lights at Johnny Mercer,Quarterman and Bryan Woods open for 15-30 min segments it would help traffic moving. Obviously they co

ok, as a resident of f•: •. you know I am sick of the traffic and parking and don't care if the people come or not. We could not get into town on Saturday for a concert we had
paid for because of all the traffic.[6 pm] we made two attempts. We think the City has an obligation to go to Chatham Co. and to the State and say, "You claim this as your
beach, public beach. Then YOU find the solution to the parking. And that doesn't mean all parking has to be available ten feet from the beach. they may have to walk ortake a
shuttle. You need to help us with paying for all of your people to use the beach. It is not fair for the people who live here to support all of the cost for a beach that is YOURS.
And it is not our obligation to find parking for all these people, just because they want to come here. When the lots are full and the parking meters are full then theyjust don't
get to stay. They have to go home. In this age of "Entitlement" everybody feels, just because they want to come to beach they are "Entitled "to do so. Not ifthere isn't room,
you don't. I'm sick of everything being directed toward the businesses. How about THE RESIDENTS? Do we not have any rights here? Our yards and hoses[ peoplejust grabbing
them to wash off] and trash cans[full of their crap) and ability to get off and on the Island are being sacrificed. We go to church in town and cannot go during the summer
because of the traffic. We can't have friends out because of the hassle, not to mention they can't even get here or home. And these accidents are s0000 messy in terms ofeven
greater tie up of traffic and time. People do not know how to merge. they race to get infront of the next car. Suggestion, make hwy 80 one lane in and one lane out. No passing
lanes at all[cluring these peak times] . It,solves all this merging which they can"t seem to handle, cuts down of possibilities of accidents. And trafficwould move because it stops
all of this crazy weaving in and out. It would be slow, but it would keep moving. As it is now, it is slow, dangerous and ripe for a deadly accident. And make sure parking fines are
huge. Get that median done on Butler. Get decent bike lanes.[ I don't care about the recent award, we need bike lanes!] Be creative on one way streets getting to the South
end and back. How about a way foe people who actually LIVE HERE. have a way to by pass the traffic hassles. As a resident, i'm sick of this. It's not enjoyable for anyone.
TYBEE 2011 INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION FOLLOW UP SURVEY
60
the city offices and depts should be open during huge weekends like this with staff available since there are large crowds that need to be managed and the subsequent issues
that arise. I am not suggesting to be •i. 365 days, • that the City schedule weekend hours based on holidays where island is sold out and exceeding max •, of •.
visitors. There has to be multiple trash pick ups on the beach during these times as well. I realize access is said to be issue, perhaps additional cans near parking areas can be
also put out since ther was a ton of uncontained trash on beach, at crosswalks, and on streets where public day visitors park. Tybee should institute pay toilets (especiallyfor
ones City is currently renting) and cut off water at all crosswalks to help control and offset costs associated with day visitors. Police and ocean rescue did excellentiob.
61 Something needs to be done to get the message out about problems with litter --- or more needs to be done to punish offenders. It is a disgusting mess ... even last night while
walking on south end stepped over used diaper in south beach parking lot. Some visitors act like pigs and they need to be educated or fined.
62 Need more police or city help directing people to available or best option parking.
63 parking info still below par although the web info and newspaper ad is a great 1st and 2nd step. Greatly appreciated police directing on 16th and butler, need them every
weekend for summer. Was not down the strand except for fireworks so cann ot comment on trash!
64 Perhaps instead of having the shuttle run from downtown Savannah, have it run from Whitemarsh Island where there is parking at the shopping areas and the three schools in
the vacinity. That may help reduce the number of cars on Tybee.
6S stop worrying about parking .... there is nothing you can do except draconian things so leave it alone. We never have a problem with parking arriving early!
66 Other than prohibiting incestuous relationships among city employees, married or otherwise, within the same dept., changing the fireworks to the 4th was the best decision Ms.
Schleisher had made early in her tenure. A blindly pro-business at any cost council reversed her sensible policy. It's time for Tybee Gov't to start concerning itselfwith RESIDENT
concerns over business concerns.
67 Parking, parking, parking.
68 Effective communications with residents as to what they may expect to occur in their neighborhood regarding parking.
