The Nic Mac Stand requested permission to transfer the license
for one M V machine to Leons Delicatassen. permission granted.
A petition was presented by Mrs. C. M. Jordon requesting that
her side walk and drive be repaired which was damaged by the J. G.
Attaway Company when it was laying the sewerage lines. Mr. Reed
was instructed to check on this and report.
Councilman Smith moved that the National cash register former-
ly used at the parking areas be sold by the Finance Committee,
Councilman Brown seconded and the motion passed.
There being no further business, Council adjourned, subject
to the call of the Mayor.

The regular meeting of Town Council was held today at
4 P. M. in the Council Room and was attended by Mayor Dutton,
who presided, Councilmen Peters, Brown, Lovell, Meddin, Hosti,
Supt. Reed, Mr. J. W. Lang, Mr. T. A. Wilson, Mr. T. J. Cochran,
Mr. E. J. Solomon, Mr. S. L. Varnedoe and Chief McCutchen.
Mr. Wilson appearing with Mr. Cochran, objected to a boat
livery business, etc., being operated from the property known as
Riverside Lodge now owned by Mr. Milton Levison, they contending
that the area is zoned against the establishment of new businesses
and that it will seriously affect property values in this section.
The minutes of the meeting of August 17th were read and
adopted.
Fire Chief Solomon stated that the State Fire Law and the
Town Ordinance regulating the installation of bottled gases, such
as butane, propane and etc., are conflicting, the State Law per-
mits small tanks or bottles above the ground, the Town Ordinance
requires that all sizes be placed under ground. It was decided
that Mr. Solms and Mr. Solomon get together and adjust the matter.
The Mayor instructed the Town Attorney to write the Tybee
Water Works to remove from the location where it is now to a
spot nearer the curb, the fire hydrant on 16th Street in front
of Carbo's building and that this be done at once.
Mr. Reed stated that he had ten prisoners, that he would
start today to lower the roof on the Garage and Shop building,

there was some storm damage to the building housing the jail
and the Fire Department.
The Mayor stated that the police and public Works Com-
mittees have agreed to transfer 0. S. Blair from the Public
Works Department to the police Department and to transfer K. P.
Mock from the police Department to the public Works Department.
Chief McCutchen stated that he now has four police Officers,
H. L. Williams, T. E. Fitzgibbon, 0. S. Blair and H. N. Chafin,
that the parking meters were taken down and stored at the Jail.

Councilman Meddin moved that bills for the month of T
amounting to 42148.80 be paid, Councilman Brown seconded and
the motion passed.
Mr. Reed stated that there were several instances where
roots were found growing in some of the sewer lines causing
stoppage and asked what he should do. He was instructed to clear
them out as soon as he could get to it.
Mr. Varnedoe representing Hotel Tybee submitted a pro-
posal to swap the Town an equal amount of land on 15th Street
for the same amount of land in the northern section of the north
parking area. The Mayor appointed Councilmen Meddin, Smith, Lovell,
and Town Attorney Solms a Committee to investigate the matter.
Mr. Varnedoe also requested that a suitable runway be
provided on the northern side of the approach to the public
dock. He was requested to explain to Mr. Reed what he had in
mind. Mr. Varnedoe also gave some statistics in connection
with the proposed new road to Tybee, that he had been working
on the matter and believed that the road can be built. Mr.
Varnedoe was excused.
Mr. V. W. Butler petitioned for permission to operate
a package shop on 16th Street on Lots 42 & 43 of Beach Lot 96,
Ward 4, Councilman Brown moved that it be granted, Councilman
Meddin seconded, those voting Yes - Meddin and Brown, voting
No - Lovell and Hosti, not voting, Peters, the vote being tied
the Mayor voted Yes, thus the motion carried. It was further
agreed that the full license fee will be required unless the
license is taken out after November lst.
The matter of the protest registered against the issu-
ance of a license to Mr. Milton Levison operator of Riverside
Lodge for a boat livery, etc., was discussed and it was decided
that no action be taken on this matter at this time.
An estimate covering the cost of making some necessary
changes in the electric service connections in the Auditorium
amounting to $114.25 was referred to the Finance Committee.
Councilman Meddin moved that the salary of K. P. Mock
remain as is, $151.10 per month. This in connection with his
transfer to the public Works Department, Councilman peters

seconded and the motion passed.
Councilman Meddin moved that the discount be allowed on
the 19+9 taxes of Henry M. Buckley, Councilman Hosti seconded
and the motion passed.
Councilman Hosti suggested that the weeds be out on Lots
and a charge be made for it, and also suggested that a land-
scape gardener be employed to do it. Mr. Reed or Mr. Lang
would report on the areas that have large growths of weeds on
them.
Councilman Meddin moved that the license for the manufac-
ture and /or sale of rubber mats be reduced from $50.00 to
$25.00,1 Councilman peters seconded and the motion passed.
Councilman Meddin moved that the following Resolution be
adopted, Councilman Lovell seconded and the motion passed.
RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, a fire suddenly occurred in the building of the
Tybee Bakery, located on 16th Street within the corporate lim-
its of the Municipality, on the night of September 6th, 1950,
at about approximately S :30 P. M. at the time when the winds
were extremely high and hazardous; and,
WHEREAS, the Savannah Beach Volunteer Fire Department
immediately responded to the fire alarm in full strength, re-
gardless of the inclement weather, and brought this said fire
under - control within a matter of a few minutes; and,
-WHEREAS, this said fire was extremely dangerous to the
buildings within the locality because of the nearness of ad-
jacent buildings in this highly built -up area and it was only
through the diligent work and tireless effort on the part of
the Savannah Beach Volunteer Fire Department that the winds
which were raging at the time of the fire did not spread the
flames -to the adjoining and adjacent buildings; all of which
is full evidence of the perfection, courage and loyalty to
duty of the Savannah Beach Volunteer Fire Department.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Councilmen
of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, Georgia, in Council assembl-
ed and it is hereby resolved by authority of the same that
the congratulations of the Mayor and Councilmen of the Muni-
cipality and the citizens of the same be extended to the
Savannah Beach Volunteer Fire Department for their magnificent
job in putting out the fire to the Tybee Bakery and the adjoin-
ing building and controlling the fire so that it did not spread
and do further damage in the community.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the Mayor and Councilmen of
Savannah Beach in Council assembled that the thanks of the Mayor
and Councilmen and the citizens of the Municipality be extended
to the Savannah Fire Department and the Thunderbolt Fire Depart-
ment for their loyal and prompt response to the emergency call
to their neighboring community and to Lawrence Smith and his
crew of The Savannah Electric and power Company who reached the
scene immediately and out the necessary wires which were a great
hazard to the men who were fighting the fire, thus preventing
further damage and lose of life in this time of emergency.
Councilman Lovell moved that the following Resolution
be adopted, Councilman peters seconded, and the motion passed.
RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, the present Jail House used by the Town
of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, is inadequate and is
lacking in many facilities;
and,
WHEREAS, there has been offered for sale to the
Town of Savannah Beach the building formerly used as a
military prison at Fort Screven;
and,
WHEREAS, after thorough inspection of the pr -
mises by me m ers of the Council, police Committee and
the Mayor, the building was found to be extremely suit-
able and fully worth the price hereafter mentioned;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and
Councilmen of the Town of Savannah Beach in Council
assembled that the Mayor and Councilmen of the Town of
Savannah Beach purchase from the Fort Screven Develop-
ment Company the building known as the old Guard House
No. which was formerly used by the military author-
ities for a prison and which building the Town of
Savannah Beach will then use as a Jail.
BEIT`.FURTHER RESOLVED by the Mayor and
Councilmen of the Town of Savannah Beach in Council
assembled that the Honorable Edward A. Dutton, Mayor
of the Town of Savannah Beach, or the then acting Mayor,
be and he is hereby authorized and directed to execute

the necessary agreement to purchase, Deeds to Secure
Debt, notes and any other instruments necessary to cm-
- plete the purchase hereinabove mentioned for the sum
of Eight Thousand ($8,000.00) Dollars, and the Clerk
of Council is hereby authorized and directed to attest
• the signature of the Mayor, or Acting Mayor,. and affix
to said instrument or instruments the official seal
of the Town of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, Georgia
There being no further business, Council
adjourned, subject to the call of the Mayor.
