WHEREAS, The labor force and union members of the United States are well
known throughout the world for leadership in their professions and
for performing their work with great distinction, intelligence,
diligence, and integrity; and
WHEREAS, the State of Illinois and State of Iowa skilled workforce helps
attract new businesses and industries and retain established
employers, thereby strengthening the current and future economies
of Illinois and Iowa; and
WHEREAS, our cities, villages and counties are committed to effective
workforce development, creating gainful job opportunities for our
citizens and providing safe, healthy and productive work
environments for employees and employers; and
WHEREAS, on Labor Day working families and their unions have the
opportunity to celebrate all their accomplishments while reflecting
on the values they bring to their workplaces; and
WHEREAS, on September 5, 1882 the first Labor Day holiday was celebrated,
and Congress passed an act on June 28, 1894 declaring the first
Monday of September as the Labor Day Holiday.
THEREFORE, be it resolved that we do hereby recognize September 2, 2013 as
LABOR DAY in our community and call upon all our citizens to
observe this day with appropriate programs, ceremonies and
activities that acknowledge the contributions of working
Americans and their families.

Mayors and city and county officials can show their community's support for America's labor force and
recognize the tremendous contributions union members make to our local economy and nation
by signing Proclamations designating:
Monday, September 2nd, 2013 as Labor Day.
Enclosed is a copy of the Proclamation Illowa is seeking your support for.
Illowa's annual Mayors Labor Day Proclamation Signing Breakfast ceremony is scheduled for Thursday,
August 29th, 2013. Mayors, city officials and County Executives will have an opportunity to sign a Labor
Day Proclamation and join in a brief program to celebrate Labor Day.
This year's program will feature two guests who will deliver past Labor Day Proclamations of
President Dwight D. Eisenhower - 1956 Labor Day Statement
President John F. Kennedy - 1963 Labor Day Statement
Please respond regarding your attendance by Friday, August 23rd by telephone to the Illowa Construc-

If you or a representative cannot attend the signing breakfast we hope your community or county will
approve the enclosed 2013 Labor Day Proclamation and return it to Illowa at 2112 53`d Street, Moline,
