The regular meeting of _Town Council was held today at 4 pM
in the Council Room and was attended by Mayor Dutton, who presid-
ed, Councilmen Brown, Hosti, Lovell, Meddin and Strong, also Chief
McCutchen, Supt. Reed, Mrs. Marie Bergman and Mr. Joseph Rizza.
Mrs. Bergman protested against the assessment placed on
her property, part of Lot 17, Ward 4. She was excused.
Mr. Rizza protested against the assessment placed on the
_improvements on his property, Lot 80 -A, Ward 4. He was excused.
Minutes of the meeting held March 5th were read and adopt-
ed.
The Clerk was instructed to send flowers to grs. John A.
_peters who is ill in St. Josephs Hospital.
The Mayor informed Council that the State Highway Depart
ment is working on Jones Avenue and that it would be necessary
to install a traffic light at Jones and let and at Butler and
16th, Chief McCutchen and Supt. Reed were instructed to get up
the necessary data. The Mayor also stated that some signs should
be posted along the board walk warning the public to keep cans,
bottles and etc. off the beach and that the Lifeguards should
help regarding this. Councilman Brown suggested that a sign be
placed at the South End of the Beach warning people to stay off
Pelican Beach during low tide.
Chief McCutchen requested permission to rob the parking
meters on 14th, 15th, 17th and 18th Streets at least once or
twice a month and rob the two parking lots every week, he was
instructed to use his own discretion in this matter.
Supt. Reed stated that he was short prisoners, he has
plenty of trash to haul, that some of the rails at the board_
walk need repairing and the benches had been put out, the Water
System is functioning alright but last Sunday it was necessary
to by -pass the sewerage into the effluent line, that some of the
occupants of cottages are not complying with the Ordinance re-
. lative to garbage cans, he also stated that the Town needs a
new garbage truck, Councilman Meddin stated that if one is need-
ed it should be gotten, that the Espy Paving Co. has several new
trucks for sale. Councilman Hosti was asked to check on this.
Councilman Lovell stated that no changes can be made in
the lines of the water system at this time that it will be ne-
cessary to wait until next fall.

Supt. Reed stated that it was necessary to get some new
equipment for the Treatment plant, he was intructed to get prices
on what was needed.
Councilman Meddin moved that bills for the month of
April amounting to 2817.88 and bills for the Water Works Sys-
tem amounting to be paid. The motion was seconded and
passed.
Councilman Lovell called attention to two serious fires
in April, the Dowell cottage, 9th & Butler and the Prescott cott-
age on Jones near 2nd Street, single jacketed fire hose was used
and between 10 and 12 lengths were broken fighting these fires
as they could not hold up under the high pressure required, he
stated that he had purchased some double jacketed fire hose for
the Fire Department, also that an Expander was needed. He was au-
thorized to purchase it.
Councilman Brown called attention to Armed Forces Day
and stated that the Town should extend a welcome to the Military
Personel and moved that the Town pay 1 3 rd of the cost of adver-
tising, the total cost will be about $ 0.00. It was seconded and
passed..
Councilman Hosti stated stated that a new truck is needed
which had already been discussed, he also thanked Council for the
flowers sent on the death of his Father.
Councilman Lovell stated that Oris S. Blair informed
him that he had been promised a $10.00 a month raise when he
went on his new job, Supt. Reed also stated-that former Council-
man Smith had promised Mr. Blair that he would increase his pay.
The matter was referred to Councilman Lovell to handle.
The protest of Mr. Rizza and Mrs. Bergman against assess-
ments on their property was referred to the Assessment Committee.
An application of Post 250 of the American Legion by
James W. Rentiers to sell whiskey at half the license fee which
would amount to $350.00 was authorized on motion made and second-
ed.
An application of the Beach Soda Shop located on the N. W.
corner of 15th Street and the Strand to sell beer was approved on
motion made and seconded.
Application of Herman Diamond to sell whiskey on the N. E.
corner of 16th & Butler was authorized on motion made and seconded.
It was moved, seconded and passed that Henry M. Buckley
be elected as Clerk of Council and Ex- Officio Treasurer for. the
ensuing year at an annual salary of $3811.50, payable monthly.
It was moved, seconded and passed that David A. Mc
Cutchen be elected Chief of Police and Ex- Officio Tax Collector
for the ensuing year at a salary of $3054.20, payable monthly.

A RES OLUT I ON
WHEREAS, HENRY L. HOSTI, father of Councilmen, B. P.
Hosti, departed this life on. the 3rd day of May 1951; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Henry L. Hosti was respectfully and
affectionately known to many of the citizens and residences
of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island; and,
WHEREAS, in the death of Mr. Henry L. Hosti, Council-
man B. P. Hosti and his family, who have devoted energetic
services for the increased welfare of the residences and
citizens of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, have sustained
the loss of one so beloved to them and a true friend of the
citizens of the Municipality;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Council-
men of the Town of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, in Council
assembled that in the death of Henry L. Hosti, the Town of
Savannah Beach has lost a true and valued friend, and the
sympathy of the Mayor and Councilmen and those of the citizens
of the Municipality be and they are hereby extended to the
family of Henry L. Hosti and Councilman, B. P. Hosti.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolu-
tion be spread upon the Minutes of Council and that a copy
thereof be sent to the wife and family of Mr. Henry L. Hosti.
It was moved, seconded and passed that the above
Resolution on the death of Henry L. Hosti be adopted.

It was moved, seconded and passed that Thomas M. Reed be
.elected superintendent of the Water, Sewerage and public Works
Departments for the ensuing year at an annual salary of $3696.00
payable monthly.
It was moved, seconded and passed that J. W. Lang be
elected Building & plumbing Inspector and also Manager of the
Water Department for the ensuing year for an annual salary of
$2904.00, payable monthly.
There being no further business, Council adjourned,
subject to the call of the Mayor.
