HomeMy Public PortalAboutRES 82/05RESOLUTION NO. 82 -5 A RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN OF GULF STTT M OPPOSING CASINO GAMBLING IN THE STATE OF FLORIDA WHEREAS, a proposed amendment to the Florida Constitution to permit the operation of state - regulated privately -owned gambling casinos in Dade and Broward Counties was rejected by the voters of Florida in 1978, by a margin of more than one million votes; and WHEREAS, another proposed amendment to the Florida Constitu- tion to permit casino gambling in Florida is now in circulation; and WHEREAS, casino gambling is associated with unsavory and criminal activities which blight communities and destroy the quality of life now enjoyed in Florida; now therefore BE IT RESOLVED BY THE TOWN COMMISSION OF THE TOWN OF GULF STREAM: Section 1. The Gulf Stream Town Commission hereby declared its opposition to any amendment to the Florida. Constitution per- mitting casino gambling in the State of Florida. Section 2. The Town Clerk shall deliver copies of this reso- lution by mail to the Governor of the State of Florida, each member of the Palm Beach County Legislative Delegation and each member of the Palm Beach County Commission.
