2022, meeting with the April 25 date changed to May 23. All members voted "aye"
and the motion passed.
• PUBLIC ART PROJECTS
• "Conserving the Heart of Idaho" public art: heart has been spotted in front of
Wild Onion and McCall Jewelry.
• McCall Public Library Integrated Art project: Public outreach to include online
surveys and static display over next month or so. Then the Artwork Selection
Committee will be convened in late August or September to interview the
artists, review public input and, hopefully, make a recommendation to the
Public Art Advisory Committee, Library Board and City Council.
• Downtown mural project: Staff reported that LOT funds have not yet been
allocated for this project, but funds are expected in August or September if
funding trends continue.
• Local art on light control boxes project: Staff reported that this project is on
the recommended FY23 LOT funding list and will be funded pending City
Council final approval of the City's FY23 budget. Dawn suggested
incorporating a McCall -related theme into the artworks. Dallas mentioned that
the artwork could be site specific. Staff will bring a draft Call to Artists to the
committee for review and approval prior to release.
• EXISTING COLLECTION MAINTENANCE & MANAGEMENT
• "Our Confluence" bench repair [ACTION ITEM]: Staff described the angle
steel mitigation approach proposed by the Laidlaw's. Committee members
questioned if the steel would get too hot and if there are other materials.
Dallas moved to approve the $1000 expenditure for the artwork retrofit, using
the materials recommended by the artist; Karla seconded. All members voted
"aye" and the motion passed.
• CAPACITY & PROMOTION
• McCall Public Art Logo revamp design preferences [ACTION ITEM]: Staff
presented the current logo and examples provided. Committee members
generally liked examples that were colorful, utilized more modern type fonts,
and ones that represented local geography or artwork. Staff will bring draft
logo ideas based on this feedback back to the committee in August.
• Fundraising event: Staff reported that Amy Westover is willing to provide a
presentation of her work at a "Design and Dessert" event on Thursday,
October 27, the evening before the next Mill Whistle blow and dedication.
Staff will provide an event budget estimate for the next meeting, Dallas will
Date:
ask about booking the Glass House, and Nellie will inquire about beverage
donations.
• Committee member term expirations: Staff reported that the terms for
committee members Nellie Bowman and Susan Farber are expiring so,
according to City Council policy, an invitation for new applicants has been
published in the newspaper. The adopted committee bylaws limit committee
member service to two full terms. Each of these committee members are
eligible to serve another term and both have submitted letters of interest.
