PURPOSE
The purpose of this Policy is to clarify the responsibility and ownership of sewer lateral lines,
including the connection or wye.
POLICY
The public sewer main is the responsibility of the Metropolitan St- Louis Sewer District. The
sewer lateral line connects houses and buildings to the public sewer main. The sewer lateral line,
including the connection, is private and is the responsibility of the property owner. The connection
or wye is defined as beginning at the outer wall of the public sewer main, including the saddle,
straps, concrete collars or any portion of the sewer lateral line that may protrude into the public
sewer main.
