The regular meeting of Council was held today at 4 P. M.
in the Council Room and was attended by Mayor Dutton, who
presided, Councilmen peters, Hosti, Coleman, Strong, Lovell,
Meddin, Town Attorney Solms, Supt. Reed, Mr. J. W. Lang, Chief
McCutchen, L. Gordon Brown, Mrs. Helen D. MacGregor and a Com-
mittee consisting of Gordon Miller, Labon-Hodges, Lawrence-Gann,
Roy Matthews and Robert Barr.
Mr. Brown, representing the Savannah Beach Optimist
Club, requested the Board to supply a playground Director this
summer as was done last summer, the Mayor asked if the Town
furnished the Director would the Optimist Club furnish the
equipment, Mr. Brown stated that the Club furnished the equip-
ment last year. The Mayor asked if the Club had set aside funds
for playground activities, Mr. Brown said it had, it was decided
that a Committee representing the Optimist Club meet with the
Mayor to go into further details.
Mr. Miller speaking for the Committee protested against
the license fee of 3150.00 assessed against Retail Beer Dealers
for the year 1952, contending it unreasonable, and on this basis
they could not make a fair profit, he said that they felt that
3100.00 was enough to charge and requested that it be reduced
to this figure. The Committee was excused. It was moved, seoond
ed and passed that the license ordinance for 1952 be amended
reducing the fee to 3100.00 instead of 3150.00.

Mrs. Mao Gregor protested against the assessment on L�
her property, part Lot a�3, Ward 4, claiming it was too high,
referred to the Assessment Committee to check on. She also pro-
tested against the increased water rent, stating it also was too
high, she also requested that she be be refunded the discount
amounting to $4.50, which she had to pay on her 1951 water rent
as ahe did not receive the bill until August 23, 1951 and paid
it immediately. It was moved, seconded and passed that Mrs. Mao
Gregor be refunded $4.50 that was paid by her on her 1951 water
bill. She was excused.
Mr. Reed stated that he now has eleven (11) prisoners ,
also he had been informed by Mr. Gould of the Savannah Electric
& Power Company that some of the sewerage pumping stations were
wired wrong.
Chief MoCutchen stated that Charles J..Bishop had
been employed by the police Committee as a Policeman to succeed
Horace J. Williams, who had been dismissed for the good of the
service. The Mayor informed Council that the Police Committee
recommended Mr. Williams dismissal.
Councilman Hosti requested that one fireman be sent
to Atlanta to school at an expense of not over $35.00 to attend
the Fire Fighting Course. It was moved, seconded and passed that
the request be granted.
Several protests were read from property owners pro-
testing against increase in charges for water service. Council-
man Lovell suggested thattthought should be given to increasing
the number of fixtures allowed water users.
Councilman Lovell stated that electrical service at
the extra water pump in Ft. Soreven which is not being used should
be disconnected.
It was moved, seconded and passed that bills for Gener -
al Government for the month of April, amounting to $2,634.33 and
bills for the Water Department, Construction Account amounting to
$1,443.37, and bills for the Revenue Account amounting to $1,112.77
be paid.
Mr. Lang stated that out of about 35 meters installed
four or five had been paid for. The Mayor instructed Mr. Lang to
give him a report not later than the 20th.
Mr. Lang informed Council that A. P. Solomon, Jr.
wanted to use his own water meter, Councilman Lovell stated it
was not the proper type.
It was inoved,seconded and passed that the Chairman of
the Licence, and the Finance Committees be authorized to establish
licensesfees, not covered by Ordinance, and that the following
Ordinance be adopted:
