ORDINANCE 1997 -19
AN ORDINANCE CONCERNING THE USE OF SKATEBOARDS AND BICYCLES IN
DOWNTOWN GREENCASTLE UP TO AND INCLUDING COLUMBIA STREET,
COLLEGE STREET, SEMINARY STREET AND MARKET STREET
WHEREAS, the City has received complaints from businesses, pedestrians and residents
about the difficulty and dangers of walking on the streets, sidewalks and areas of the downtown
square of the City of Greencastle and the areas outlined where skateboards are no ing used;
and
WHEREAS, the Council has the authority under I.C. 36 -9 -2 -7 to regult �Il� \uU use
public ways; and
WHEREAS, the Council has the authority under I.C. 36- -2 -4 o e e con ct that
might endanger the public health, safety or welfare;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY ito'erate F GREENCASTLE,
INDIANA:
The Greencastle Code shall include the follow
(a) It is hereby declared a public nuisance a skateboard on the streets,
sidewalks, alleys, ramps and parking areas within the y bounded by and includine:
Columbia Street (north), College Str t ( Seminary Street (south)
and Market Street (west).
(b) It is hereby decl b c n isance t- aperate a bicycle on a sidewalk in the
above described area.
(c) A skateboar dRerated in vi ion of this Ordinance may be temporarily
confiscated to abate the nui nc and retu d at the direction of the court or the police chief.
(d) The penalty for vio ing thi Ordinance is in accordance with the provisions of
the penalties cited in the Greencastle ty ode.
PASSED AND ADOPTED BY THE GREENCASTLE COMMON COUNCIL this
