There being no further business, Council adjourned,
subject to the call of the Mayor.

February 11, 1953.,
The regular meeting of Town Council was held today at 4 P.M.
in the Council Room, and was attended by Mayor Dutton, who presided,
and Councilmen Peters, Hosti, Coleman, Strong, Meddin, Lovell, Town
Attorney Solms, Chief McCutchen, Acting Supt. Blair and Mr. Huddle
McCollum.
• Mr. McCollum requested that the tennis courts in the park be
conditioned and put in use so that they could be used and suggested
that the overhead lights also be restored putting in a money meter
that would operate the lights when they were needed he also sug-
gested-that some more soft ball diamonds and also several locations
for the use of shuffle boards be installed. The Mayor appointed
the following committee to handle the matter Councilman Strong, as
Chairman, Councilman Coleman and Mr. McCollum. Mr. McCollum was
excused.
It was moved, seconded and passed that bills for General Gov-
ernment for the month of February amounting to $1,311.21 and bills
for the Water Department amounting to $1,117.05 and bills for.the
erection of the effluent line amounting to $418.28 be paid.
Councilman Lovell informed Council that Mr. Reed was in the
hospital and that he had done e. good job on the effluent line and
should be commended for it.
Councilman Strong stated that the bulk of the back taxes had
been collected and that only a small amount is unpaid and asked what
action should be taken, the Mayor advised not to push these at this
time, Councilman Strong also stated that the work on the roof at
the shop had been finished and that a good job had been done there
by Mr. Perry Solomon, 3rd, Councilman Strong suggested that the ends
and sides of the shop should also be repaired now that he had Mr.
Reed make up an estimate of the cost which amounts to $1,764.00 for
a complete job. It was moved, seconded and passed that a Committee
consisting of the Mayor and Councilmen Meddin and Strong be author-
ised and empowered to have the work done.
Petition of Mrs. Sub B. Cook operator of the Georgiana Inn and
Mr. Diamond operator of the Esso filling station requesting that an
opening be made in the grass plat in front of their properties on
Butler Avenue near 14th Street. Referred to Councilman Strong.

Petition of Mrs. Betty Elizabeth McCutchen to sell beer
at Betty's Diner, 15th Street & Butler Avenue referred to
Councilman peters.
It was
moved, oved, seconded and passed that discounts be allowed
on the 1952 taxes of A. P. Solomon 3rd, Marjorie B. Solomon, Henry
M. Buckley and that the discounts on the 1951 & 1952 taxes of Henry
N. Chafin be allowed.
Councilman Strong informed Council that Johnny Grey wants a
road opened to a Sub - Division being developed by him at Estill
Station North of Bay Street. No action was taken.
It was moved, seconded and passed that the Mayor and Chief of
Police be authorized to use vehicle license plates issued to the
Town.
Chief McCutchen reported that work on the jail was completed
and now they pre working on the parking meters.
Councilman Meddin read a letter from Varnedoe Chisholm& Co.,
requesting the Town to reimburse them in the amount of 31,500.00
to help to defray expenses incurred by them in connection with the
new proposed road to Savannah Beach this amount to be returned to
the Town if and when the Water Revenue Certificates are sold. It
was moved, seconded and passed that 31,000.00 be offered to them.

A RESOLUTION
WhIREAS, it has been brought to the attention of. the Mayor
and Councilmen of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, Georgia that the
Federal Housing Administration and the Federal authority under
which veteran's loans are made, have ruled that Savannah Beach,
Tybee Isl d, Georgia is aresort Municipality; and,
WH R AS, the aforesaid ruling os these Federal .Administrations
prohibit em from approving applications for F.H.A. loans and /or
G.I. loans, on buildings and /or residences within the corporate limits
of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, Georgia; and,
- WUREAS, Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, has a large number of
year around residents at this time and each year this number is
continually increasing; and,
of these Fe deral Administrations has

WHEREAS, said ruling
materially affected the rights and interest of the residents of
this Municipality to the extent they cannot obtain the approval
of said authorities for loans, re- financing of loans and in many
other ways; and it further curtails the future construction, im-
provement and growth of said Municipality.
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED by the Mayor and Councilmen of
Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, Georgia, in Council;assambled that
the ruling of the Federal Housing Athninistrat ion .and ,the other
Federal authorities to the effect that Savannah Beach, Tybee Island
is a resort Municipality be brought to the attention of the Federal
.Housing administration and other Federal authorities with the re-
quest that this ruling be changed in order that loans may be made on
property ithin the corporate limits of this Municipality.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent
to Senator Walter F. George, Senator Richard B. Russell and Congress-
man Prince H. Preston with the request that they assist the Mayor
and Councilmen in having the aforesaid ruling of said Federal
authorities changed to permit the approval of loans as hereinabove
mentioned,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this-resolution be spread upon the
minutes of Council and that a copy of the same be sent to Senator
Walter F. George, Senator Richard B. Russell and Congressman
Prince H. Preston.
